ROLE SUMMARY:
Vilamoura International School (CIV) is a leading educational institution located in southern Portugal, offering Pre-School, Primary, and Secondary Education through a blend of national and international curricula, including programs from Cambridge Assessment International Education.
Set in a unique natural environment with an expansive 18,500 m² outdoor play area, CIV has dedicated over 40 years to developing an educational model that emphasizes early learning, inquiry-based education, and a values-driven approach grounded in democratic and humanistic principles.
CIV is on a quest for a Physics Teacher (IB background preferred) to join our team starting in August 2026. The ideal candidate will engage students with dynamic and challenging lessons, cultivate essential scientific and mathematical reasoning skills, inspire curiosity and critical thinking, and support the academic, social, and emotional growth of every student.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design and deliver Physics lessons aligned with the International Baccalaureate (MYP/DP) frameworks and relevant curriculum standards.

Enhance students’ abilities in scientific inquiry, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and laboratory skills through an inquiry-based learning approach.
•
Develop and implement units of inquiry that embody the IB philosophy, integrating key concepts, global contexts, and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.
•
Assess, monitor, and document student progress in accordance with IB assessment guidelines, providing clear, constructive, and ongoing feedback.
•
Promote scientific literacy and real-world connections through the exploration of essential Physics topics, including mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves, and modern physics.
•
Adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning needs, paces, and styles of students.
•
Create a positive, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating learning environment, ensuring safe and effective laboratory practices.
•
Collaborate with colleagues, the IB coordination team, and parents, actively participating in pedagogical meetings and ongoing professional development opportunities.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
•
A degree in Physics, Science, Education, or a related field.
•
Experience teaching Physics, preferably in an IB (MYP/DP) or international school setting.
•
Strong expertise in the subject matter and a comprehensive understanding of IB teaching methodologies, particularly those that focus on inquiry-based and experiential learning.
•
Ability to establish a positive, safe, inclusive, and intellectually engaging classroom environment.
•
Exceptional communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
•
A strong dedication to promoting students’ academic, social, and emotional development, in alignment with IB principles and the IB Learner Profile.
