ROLE SUMMARY:

Located in Palmela, near Lisbon, St. Peter’s International School serves around 1,500 students aged 4 months to 18 years across a modern 37,000 m² campus. The school provides a bilingual curriculum (Portuguese/English), Cambridge programs, and the International Baccalaureate, with boarding options available for older students. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and execute engaging, tailored lessons in IB Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) and General Science (including Cambridge Lower Secondary Science, when needed).
  • Foster a comprehensive understanding of environmental systems, sustainability, ecosystems, biodiversity, resource management, and the effects of human activity on the environment.
  • Cultivate a stimulating and inclusive classroom environment that promotes inquiry, dialogue, and critical analysis of environmental topics.
  • Connect scientific concepts to real-world environmental issues, including climate change, conservation, sustainable development, and global citizenship.
  • Utilize hands-on investigations, fieldwork, data analysis, and inquiry-based learning techniques.
  • Continuously assess student progress and offer constructive feedback to support academic and personal growth.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, ensuring content is aligned with international standards and remains current and relevant.
  • Encourage student participation in extracurricular activities such as environmental clubs, sustainability initiatives, and science enrichment programs.
  • Foster a respectful, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that prioritizes student well-being.
  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to enhance the learning experience.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and take part in school initiatives, events, and mentorship opportunities.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Geography, Education, or a related field (teaching qualification preferred).
  • Experience teaching IB Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) and/or General Science, or similar international curricula.
  • A deep passion for environmental education and the capability to inspire students to critically assess sustainability and global challenges.
  • Strong skills in facilitating inquiry-based learning, discussions, and interdisciplinary thought.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in an international or multicultural environment (preferred).
  • Proficient in English with a strong commitment to student well-being and safeguarding.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
