Overall Description:

The Primary Teacher works in a Co-Teaching arrangement alongside their Chinese partner to provide education for Primary students, in line with the Yew Chung Educational Philosophy and Objectives. Co-teachers should understand the wider curriculum and administrative requirements of the Foundation, striving for excellence by meeting the students' needs with professionalism, sensitivity, and care.

Job Description:

Teaching

  • Developing and structuring courses and lessons.
  • Delivering instruction tailored to the educational needs of assigned students, including assigning and assessing student work.
  • Evaluating, documenting, and reporting on students' development, progress, and achievements.
  • Occasionally stepping in for absent teachers.
  • Acting as a support teacher in other classes for about 2 hours a week (while the teacher's class participates in Chinese lessons).
  • Regularly providing reports and both oral and written assessments, as well as references when necessary.

Other Activities

  • Promoting the overall development and well-being of assigned students.
  • Addressing the personal and social needs of pupils.
  • Engaging with parents outside of school hours as needed.
  • Communicating with external individuals or organizations when required.
  • Taking part in departmental and other relevant meetings.

Training and Development

  • Assessing the teaching methods and curricula in use as needed.
  • Participating in training and professional development opportunities offered by the Foundation.

Educational Methods

  • Collaborating with co-principals and fellow teachers to create and enhance study programs, teaching strategies, assessment methods, and pastoral care arrangements; respecting collaboratively made decisions.

Discipline, Health, and Safety

  • Maintaining order and discipline among students while ensuring their health and safety both on school grounds and during authorized school activities conducted elsewhere.

Public Examinations

  • Preparing students for public examinations and assessments leading to such evaluations.
  • Overseeing and monitoring students during examination sessions.

Administration

  • Participating, as needed, in the review, development, and management of curriculum-related activities.
  • Attending assemblies, taking student attendance, and supervising students, including duties before, during, or after school sessions (this includes supervising students during breaks and lunch as needed).
