About This Role

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Head of Secondary Physical Education to become part of our team, commencing in August 2026.

The Head of Secondary PE will provide both academic and operational leadership for Physical Education within our Middle and Secondary schools.

This position supports the Director of PE in delivering outstanding academic PE, nurturing competitive sports, preparing students for examinations, and enhancing overall student wellbeing. The ideal candidate will manage curriculum delivery, oversee assessment processes, and develop enrichment opportunities in Secondary PE, while adhering to British curriculum standards and UAE regulatory requirements (ADEK and MoE).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Phase Leadership:
    • Manage the execution of the Secondary PE curriculum for Years 7-13.
    • Ensure a smooth transition from general physical education to specialized academic PE pathways.
    • Work closely with the Director of PE to synchronize Primary and Secondary PE programs.
    • Assist the Director of PE in maintaining excellence in competitive sports and examination classes.
    • Lead Secondary PE staff meetings and ensure the consistent implementation of agreed actions.
    • Cultivate a culture that promotes participation, enjoyment, and physical wellbeing.
    • Oversee curriculum implementation and maintain documentation ready for inspection.
  • Teach Like a GEM (TLAG) Departmental Support:
    • Support the TLAG Champion in implementing the TLAG Framework across Secondary PE, ensuring consistent expectations and practices.
    • Champion high-quality coaching and theoretical instruction in examination classes.
    • Assess the effectiveness of TLAG implementation through lesson observations, planning assessments, and student feedback.
    • Ensure consistency in feedback, modeling solutions, and examination techniques.
    • Confirm that the departmental curriculum aligns with the National Curriculum for England and exam board requirements, while being adaptable for diverse physical abilities.
  • Curriculum and Assessment:
    • Organize PE schemes of work for Middle and Secondary schools to ensure progressive skill development.
    • Align curriculum planning with Cambridge iGCSE PE (0413).
    • Ensure fulfillment of all theoretical and practical assessment requirements.
    • Supervise moderation and standardization of practical assessments.
    • Stay informed about examination board requirements.
    • Assist with accurate data entry and reporting during school assessment periods.
  • Data, Standards, and Student Achievement:
    • Monitor academic performance in iGCSE PE.
    • Analyze data trends to implement focused interventions.
    • Provide advice for students selecting PE academically during Options in Years 9 and 11.
    • Assist in identifying and fostering sporting talent.
    • Promote healthy lifestyles and encourage positive engagement with physical activity.
  • Sport, Enrichment, and Competition:
    • Organize fixtures, tournaments, and competitive sports events.
    • Encourage strong student participation in Secondary.
    • Support the development of elite pathways when appropriate, in coordination with the Director of PE Whole School.
  • Operational and Safety Oversight:
    • Ensure the safe use of facilities and equipment.
    • Conduct risk assessments for all activities and events.
    • Collaborate with the Director of PE Whole School to manage Secondary PE timetables and staff assignments.
  • Compliance, Safeguarding, and Inclusion:
    • Uphold and model the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection.
    • Ensure inclusive participation for all students, regardless of ability or background.
    • Maintain accurate and compliant departmental documentation in line with school, ADEK, and MoE regulations.
    • Assist the Director of PE Whole School in aligning departmental practices with school policies and regulatory standards.
    • Ensure risk assessments are conducted and safeguarding policies are followed during enrichment activities.

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
