The Role: Head of Food Science

Commencing in September 2026, we are seeking an exceptional and committed Head of Food Science to become part of our team. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on students by nurturing their creativity and practical abilities in food technology. As the Head of Department, you will inspire and guide students to explore nutrition, culinary arts, and food science, providing them with a robust foundation for successful careers in the food industry.

In the position of Head of Food Science, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and practical lessons that encourage students to examine the core aspects of food preparation, nutrition, and sustainability. You will support students through the GCSE Food Technology curriculum, equipping them with essential skills for academic achievement and various food-related occupations.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver captivating and innovative lessons in Food Technology, focusing on food science, nutrition, and culinary practices.
  • Assist students in deepening their understanding of sustainable food practices, food production, and health and safety regulations.
  • Foster a creative and hands-on learning environment where students feel empowered to experiment and innovate in the kitchen.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop a comprehensive and cohesive curriculum that aligns with the school’s values and educational goals.
  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and staff, providing regular updates on student progress and achievements.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities related to food technology, such as cooking clubs or food-themed events.

The successful applicant will meet the following criteria:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Nutrition, Culinary Arts, or a related field.
  • PGCE, PGDE, or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Proven experience teaching GCSE Food Technology with a strong record of student success.
  • A creative and enthusiastic approach to teaching both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Excellent IT and communication skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development, leadership, and sustainability in education.
