About This Role
Runnymede College, a private non-denominational British institution situated in Madrid, offers a British education to children of diverse nationalities, catering to ages two through eighteen. Our curriculum is in line with the British National Curriculum.
Founded as a private entity in September 1967, the primary school commenced operations in 1987, with the entire establishment relocating to La Moraleja in northern Madrid in 1990. The school is divided into three segments: Pre-Prep (Pre Nursery to Year 3), Prep (Years 4 to 8), and Senior School (Years 9 to 13).
Runnymede College is recognized for its high academic achievements. In June 2025, 57% of our students attained A-A* at A level, exceeding the 48% of A*-A grades achieved by independent (private) schools across England this year. Furthermore, 67% of our pupils received A*-A grades at IGCSE, significantly outperforming the 48% of A*-A grades at GCSE in the English independent school sector.
Among the graduating class of 2025, an impressive 83% of students pursuing higher education in the UK are set to enroll in Top 10 universities as per the Sunday Times Good University Guide. Esteemed UK institutions welcoming this year's graduates include Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, and LSE. Students heading to the US have already begun their journeys at prestigious universities like Harvard, Columbia, UPenn, and Brown, among others.
Several students will remain in Spain, attending renowned institutions such as ICADE, IE, and ICAI, while others will pursue their studies at leading universities in France and Ireland.

We are currently on the lookout for an outstanding Head of Economics to become part of our Senior School team starting in September 2026.
Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in Economics, Business Studies, Maths, or a related discipline from a respected university, along with a demonstrated sustained interest in the subject as it pertains to students' everyday experiences.
The ideal candidate will be a dedicated and passionate educator with excellent interpersonal skills.
This role may also provide opportunities for involvement in pastoral care and co-curricular initiatives, including the Economics Society or Model United Nations.
The successful applicant will be tasked with delivering engaging and varied lessons to Year 12 and 13 A Level Economics and Business students. They will motivate students while ensuring lessons are customized to support the learning needs of all, especially those applying to Economics-related undergraduate courses at top universities in the UK, USA, and Europe. Additionally, the candidate may assist students with their university applications and offer guidance on university readiness, including suggested reading materials.
The Department follows the Edexcel (Pearson) A-Level specification, with assessments conducted at the end of the two-year A-level course. The department consistently produces excellent results in public examinations and supports numerous Economics/Business university candidates each year. The successful candidate will be expected to teach high-achieving students and engage in enrichment activities, such as the Year 12 Extended Essay Competition.
The preferred candidate will possess:
- A good honours degree from a British university
- A PGCE or equivalent qualified teacher status for secondary education
- Recent experience teaching A Level Economics
- Preferred recent experience teaching A Level Business
- Prior experience as Head of Department
- The capability to adjust teaching strategies to cater to individual student needs
- High expectations for student effort and behavior, underpinned by effective classroom management skills
- Strong organizational abilities
