Job Title: Head of Economics, Business and Accounting (HOD)
Reports to: Academic Centre
Supervises: Faculty Coordinators & Teachers in the Department
Executive Summary:
The Head of Department (HOD) is responsible for leading and organizing the teaching and curriculum development within the subject area, ensuring exceptional teaching standards and the continuous advancement of the discipline.
Core Mission:
1. Align with the school's vision, mission, and strategic goals.
2. Articulate the Department's vision and guide its development.
3. Conduct evaluations while providing strong academic and instructional leadership.
4. Ensure the quality of the curriculum and assess individual courses.
5. Stay informed about broader school developments to make decisions that align with the school's mission.
Specific Responsibilities:
Leadership
1. Develop and track departmental improvement initiatives, setting targets as necessary.
2. Support the recruitment and onboarding process for outstanding teachers within the department.
3. Represent the department in meetings, contributing to relevant school policies and their execution.
4. Supervise Faculty Coordinators, offering guidance and training as needed.
Teaching and Learning
1. Encourage the professional growth of teachers and collaborate with PD Leads both within the school and with external providers to create development opportunities.
2. Implement the school’s performance management system to accurately assess teacher effectiveness.
3. Establish shared standards of practice, promoting the exchange of effective teaching methods within the department to improve educational outcomes.
Curriculum and Assessment
1. Lead initiatives for curriculum development in the subject area and coordinate resource sharing to establish consistent standards.
2. Oversee subject assessments to ensure reporting of results meets agreed-upon standards and timelines.
3. Ensure that assessments are accurate, moderated, and effectively prepare students for examinations.
4. Provide comprehensive and consistent feedback to students to facilitate their progress.
5. Analyze examination results (including CIE and internal assessments) and incorporate insights into the department's development strategy.
6. Collaborate with Division (Year) Leaders to ensure that departmental staff effectively identify and support underachieving students.
Other Duties
1. Develop and manage the department budget prudently and implement it effectively.
2. Collaborate with Division (Year) Leaders to ensure successful subject delivery at the division level.
3. Maintain attendance records for departmental staff, submitting them to the registrar and arranging cover for sick or other absences.
4. Undertake any additional reasonable responsibilities as assigned by the school.
