Position: Elementary School Counsellor / Mental Health Therapist

Location: Chief Paskwa Education Centre Elementary School, Pasqua First Nation, Saskatchewan, Canada

Start Date: As soon as possible

Position Overview:

Chief Paskwa Education Centre is seeking a compassionate and skilled Elementary School Counsellor / Mental Health Therapist to become part of our educational team. This role is dedicated to enhancing the mental, emotional, and social well-being of our students through counselling, crisis intervention, and mental health initiatives, all within a culturally responsive and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate both individual and group counselling sessions for students.
  • Provide crisis intervention and short-term therapeutic support.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, Elders, and community partners to improve student well-being.
  • Develop and lead workshops, programs, and activities focused on promoting mental health and resilience.
  • Maintain confidential and accurate case records in accordance with professional standards.
  • Integrate culturally relevant approaches and First Nations perspectives into counselling practices.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline.
  • Must possess valid registration in good standing with the appropriate professional college or association (e.g., Saskatchewan College of Psychologists, Saskatchewan College of Social Workers, Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, etc.).
  • Preferred experience working with youth in an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed and strength-based approaches.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, and the impacts of intergenerational trauma.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Additional Assets:

  • Experience within a First Nation community or educational facility.
  • Proficiency in an Indigenous language or the ability to understand one.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
