About This Role

Location: Hongkong.

Duties:

A. Knowledge and understanding:

  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of Design & Technology as outlined in the National Curriculum, IGCSE, and IB.
  • Have a strong grasp of the subject matter in Design & Technology.
  • Effectively address subject-related inquiries from students and be aware of common misconceptions and errors within the discipline.
  • Be familiar with all secondary school curriculum and assessment standards.

B. Planning and setting expectations:

  • Clearly define teaching objectives, content, lesson structures, and sequences that are suitable for both the subject and the students.
  • Establish challenging and appropriate expectations to enhance student learning and motivation, setting clear targets that build upon prior knowledge and experiences.
  • Recognize students with special educational needs and those who are gifted and talented, and know how to access support to provide focused assistance. If necessary, implement and maintain Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

C. Teaching and managing student learning:

  • Deliver effective instruction to whole classes, small groups, and individual students ensuring that teaching goals are met, maintaining momentum and challenge, and optimizing teaching time.
  • Employ engaging teaching strategies that stimulate students’ intellectual curiosity, facilitate effective questioning and responses, and utilize resources effectively.
  • Set high standards for student behavior, fostering and maintaining discipline through effective teaching and positive, productive relationships.

D. Assessment and evaluation:

  • Evaluate the extent to which learning objectives have been met and utilize this information to inform future teaching practices.
  • Assess and monitor student work, providing constructive oral and written feedback, while setting targets for their development.
  • When relevant, be aware of the expectations placed on students regarding the National Curriculum, KS4, and KS5.

E. Relations with parents and the wider community:

  • Know how to compile and present informative reports for parents.
  • Acknowledge that learning extends beyond the classroom, offering opportunities to connect students' education to real-world contexts and examples.
  • Recognize the importance of collaborating with external agencies.

F. Managing own performance and development:

  • Take responsibility for personal professional growth and stay informed about research and developments in pedagogy and relevant subjects.
  • Understand professional responsibilities in relation to school policies, guidelines, and practices.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students in both appearance and behavior.
  • Critically evaluate personal teaching practices to enhance effectiveness.

G. Managing and developing staff and other adults:

  • Foster effective working relationships with colleagues, including co-teachers, specialist educators, and support staff.

H. Managing resources:

  • Choose and effectively utilize books, equipment, ICT, and other educational resources to achieve teaching objectives.

Skills/qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and teaching certificate or license with strong subject knowledge.
  • At least 2 years of full-time teaching experience in an educational environment.
  • Proficient in graphic design skills and comfortable using both Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Experience with CAD and knowledge of CAM is advantageous.
  • IGCSE qualification as a moderator and/or IBO training in Design & Technology is a plus.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
