About This Role

DEPUTY HEADTEACHER (SECONDARY SECTION)

Rainbow International School Uganda is a coeducational day and boarding institution for students aged 2 to 18 located in Kampala, Uganda. We serve both Primary and Secondary students on a shared campus, with two Headteachers overseeing each section, reporting to the school’s Principal. Our community includes a diverse mix of expatriate and Ugandan families. As one of the most established and reputable international schools in Uganda, we offer the EYFS and IPC curricula in Primary, the English National curriculum at Key Stage 3, and Cambridge IGCSE and Advanced Level in Key Stages 4 and 5. Additionally, we provide BTEC Level 3 courses as an alternative route to University.

In the role of Deputy Headteacher for the Secondary section, you will set high expectations for others and serve as a model of excellence in practice.

This position is ideal for a dynamic Deputy or Assistant Headteacher eager to enhance their leadership and management capabilities. While the role presents challenges, it also offers significant rewards for the right candidate.

The Successful candidate must:
● Be passionate and dedicated
● Exhibit a proven record of exemplary classroom teaching
● Teach their specialist subject up to and potentially including A Level
● Have substantial leadership experience as a Deputy or Assistant Headteacher
● Possess a strong desire for school improvement and a clear vision for teaching and learning
● Demonstrate experience in leading a team and managing change
● Be capable of engaging, motivating, and supporting students, staff, and parents
● Be a reflective and adaptable practitioner with the capacity for creative thinking and risk-taking
● Have the interpersonal skills necessary to effectively lead teams
● Have a deep understanding of student wellbeing and safeguarding protocols
● Possess significant knowledge of the English national curriculum, IGCSE, A Level, and BTEC
● Have proficiency in Google Apps
● Be adept at using ICT to enhance learning in the classroom
● Hold a strong philosophy centered on learning
● Be a visible and approachable leader
● Have experience in leading staff meetings or training sessions
● Be willing to coordinate after-school enrichment activities

Qualifications:
● A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., Bachelor’s Degree in Education in the relevant subject area, PGCE/PGDE, QTS)
● Must be registered as a Teacher and possess a Certificate of registration as a qualified Teacher
● NPQH, NPQSL, or M. Ed. is a desirable asset
