Deputy Head of Primary
As the Deputy Head of Primary, you will report directly to the Head of Primary and play a crucial role in both the strategic and operational leadership of the school. The ideal candidate will contribute to school improvement initiatives, uphold high standards, and ensure that every student enjoys an outstanding educational experience.
Key Responsibilities
• Promote and sustain the ethos, vision, and standards of excellence in line with the GEMS Core Values.
• Advocate for and implement ‘The GFM Way,’ ensuring it is central to all school improvement efforts and that student welfare is prioritized in decision-making.
• Assist in developing and executing the school’s strategic and excellence plans, alongside key improvement initiatives.
• Provide robust leadership and management for staff and students alike.
• Guarantee a high-quality educational experience that empowers every student to achieve their maximum potential.
• Build strong relationships with parents, ensuring regular engagement and communication standards are met.
• Encourage high academic achievements in line with the school’s objectives and UAE National Agenda targets.
• Aid in the development of school aims, policies, and systems, ensuring they are effectively enacted.
• Monitor and evaluate progress towards the school’s priorities and objectives.
• Support the efficient management of staff, resources, and budgets.
• Undertake teaching and other professional responsibilities as directed by the Principal.

Teaching, Curriculum and Assessment
• Champion the ‘Teach Like a GEM’ approach.
• Lead instructional coaching and utilize Steplab to improve teaching methodologies.
• Ensure high-quality teaching is consistently delivered across all phases, based on evidence-based practices.
• Enhance subject knowledge and teaching strategies across the curriculum.
• Develop and implement effective monitoring and evaluation frameworks to drive ongoing improvement.
• Ensure that a comprehensive, balanced, and coherent curriculum is delivered effectively.
• Support and nurture curriculum leadership, including subject leaders.
• Ensure assessment practices are valid, reliable, and support student progress.
Inclusion (SEN and Disabilities)
• Foster an inclusive environment where all students can engage with the curriculum.
• Maintain high expectations for students with additional needs.
• Collaborate closely with parents to identify needs and implement appropriate support and adjustments.
Organisational Management and School Improvement
• Assist in shaping and implementing the school’s strategic direction in partnership with leadership and governance.

• Implement comprehensive risk management processes.
• Identify challenges to school effectiveness and lead relevant improvement strategies.
• Monitor, evaluate, and assess the impact of school improvement initiatives.
Staff Management and Professional Development
• Line manage Assistant Headteachers and middle leaders, overseeing performance management and appraisal.
• Ensure staff have access to high-quality professional development opportunities.
• Stay informed on developments in educational and leadership practices.
• Engage in continuous professional development to enhance leadership skills.
Governance and Partnerships
• Operate effectively within governance frameworks, accepting accountability and responsibility.
• Ensure staff understand and fulfill their professional duties.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and statutory obligations.
• Build effective partnerships with other schools and organizations within the GEMS network and beyond.
• Collaborate with colleagues and external partners to improve outcomes for all students.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have:
• A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent).
• A minimum of five years of teaching experience in a British curriculum primary school.
• Proven experience in a leadership role.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish trusting, professional relationships.
• A coaching-oriented approach to leadership and staff development.
• A commitment to delivering exceptional teaching and learning experiences.
