School Social Worker

Position: School Social Worker

Reporting to the Principal, the School Social Worker will collaborate with the Student Services and Wellness support team, school staff, parents/guardians, clinicians, and external agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Social Work Degree
- Valid Manitoba Social Work School Clinician Certificate (or eligibility for)
- Exceptional crisis response and management abilities (e.g., conducting comprehensive risk assessments, creating safety plans, and providing follow-up care for students experiencing suicidal thoughts and other self-harming behaviors)
- Experience in developing and delivering universal and targeted social-emotional programs across various age groups
- Strong interpersonal and case management skills, including consultation
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, effective organizational skills, and proficiency in computer use; capable of managing multiple deadlines
- Solid understanding of Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Being, and Doing
- Familiarity with provincial resources such as the Manitoba Sourcebook for School Guidance and Counselling Services, Mamàhtawisiwin: The Wonder We are Born With, and the Framework for Learning
- Training in Threat Assessment (VTRA), ASIST, Trauma-Informed Practices, and Cultural Safety is preferred
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The chosen candidate will deliver a wide range of school-based social work services, including but not limited to:
- Offering counseling and group support for students facing social/emotional challenges
- Assisting in the creation and facilitation of school-wide initiatives that promote mental wellness
- Providing guidance and consultation to school staff regarding the social/emotional needs of students
- Addressing emerging educational trends that emphasize prevention, early intervention, school readiness, parent education, and service integration for children from birth through secondary education
- Collaborating with community programs to establish community development initiatives
- Working alongside school support teams and parents/guardians to identify and address student needs
- Preparing and submitting written reports in line with Division timelines
- Referring cases to external agencies in consultation with school staff and/or the Student Services Team
- Partnering with the Student Services Team to facilitate professional development for school staff and parents
- Upholding confidentiality as per professional standards
- Complying with Frontier School Division policies and procedures
