Scope of Responsibility
At GUIS, every staff member plays a role in creating a safe and developmentally appropriate environment in line with the GUIS program philosophy, policies, and procedures. The teacher at GUIS is essential in delivering high-quality lessons while fostering both academic and personal growth in students. In alignment with the school’s vision and values, the teacher is tasked with cultivating a nurturing, engaging, and inclusive learning atmosphere that encourages student success, curiosity, and a passion for learning.
Major Duties:
Safeguarding and Wellbeing:
- Ensure the safety, wellbeing, and positive behavior of all community members
- Adhere to GUIS's safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures
Key Responsibilities
In accordance with the teaching standards applicable to ULC, teachers are expected to:
- Plan and deliver well-structured, engaging lessons
- Modify teaching strategies to meet the diverse strengths and needs of all students
- Assess, monitor, and document student progress, employing data-driven instructional methods to enhance teaching and learning
- Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that facilitates progress for all students
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the school’s curriculum and instructional frameworks
- Recognize and work towards improving literacy and oracy across all lessons
Whole-School Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of school policies, practices, and procedures that support the school's vision and values, with a focus on students' Social and Emotional Wellbeing
- Engage in the broader life and ethos of the school, including extracurricular activities and events
- Participate in up to six marketing events during the academic year as needed
- Provide coverage for colleagues when requested
Specific Division’s Duties
- Teaching load (60m/lesson): Maximum of 18 lessons per week
- Co-Curricular Activities (CCA): All teachers must participate in two sessions per week (unpaid). Those with stipend responsibilities are required to contribute one session per week (unpaid)
- Office Hours: 15:55hrs – 16:40hrs every Tuesday and Thursday
- Homeroom duty: All teachers should be prepared to take on the HRS (unpaid) role as needed
- Marketing & Admissions days: Up to six unpaid days to assist with marketing events when required
Required Qualifications, Skills, Experience, and Attributes:
- An internationally recognized teaching qualification
- Proficiency in the language of instruction
- Comprehensive subject knowledge and curriculum expertise in relevant specialism(s)
- Ability to design and deliver engaging, well-organized lessons tailored to student needs
- Strong classroom management skills with the capability to maintain a positive, secure, and productive learning space
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, fostering collaboration with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and a passion for enhancing teaching practices
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of the school
