We are in search of a passionate and dedicated Secondary Drama & English Teacher to join our faculty in August 2026. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering captivating lessons, cultivating a positive classroom atmosphere, and actively engaging in the broader school community.

The Role

Thames British School is seeking a native-level English-speaking, well-qualified, and dynamic Drama & English educator for a full-time position commencing on the 25th of August 2026.

The perfect candidate will possess a genuine enthusiasm for the subject and experience teaching secondary school students up to the age of 18.

This role is suited for both seasoned educators and newly qualified teachers. Your passion for teaching will inspire students across all key stages, including IGCSE and A Level.

Familiarity and willingness to incorporate ICT in your teaching are preferred. We are looking for a proactive team player who brings energy to this position and is eager to engage in extracurricular activities.

The teacher will uphold consistently high standards for student behavior, engagement, and performance, effectively utilizing formative and summative assessments, including Cambridge assessment criteria, A Level requirements, and externally examined components, to guide lesson planning, provide targeted feedback, and ensure strong examination outcomes.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues, parents, and students, contributing to curriculum development and the overall academic vision of an international Cambridge school. They will fully engage in the pastoral care system, uphold safeguarding responsibilities in accordance with statutory requirements and school policies, and actively participate in the broader life of the school, including enrichment activities and academic mentoring.

Key Responsibilities


● Design and deliver lessons tailored to diverse age groups and abilities.

● Assess student work, provide timely and constructive feedback, and keep detailed records of student progress and development.

● Stay current in subject knowledge through continuous professional development (both guided and self-directed) and create new curriculum materials as needed.

● Choose and utilize a variety of learning resources and equipment.

● Prepare students for qualifications and external examinations.

● Manage student behavior effectively in the classroom and on school grounds, applying appropriate measures for misbehavior using the Consequence System, awarding House Points, and nominating students for Student of the Week.

● Undertake pastoral responsibilities, including serving as a form tutor and assisting students through academic or personal challenges.

● Communicate with parents and carers regarding student progress and engage in departmental meetings, parents' evenings, and school training events.

● Collaborate with professionals such as learning mentors and career advisors.

● Support the work of teaching assistants, technicians, trainee teachers, and newly qualified teachers.

● Meet with other professionals to discuss the specific needs and progress of individual students.

● Organize and take part in extracurricular activities, including trips, social events, and sports activities.

● Participate in observations and learning walks.

● Attend key school events, such as Family BBQs and Open Days (if required).

● Allow students to express themselves freely without fear of discrimination or harm.

● Create a safe, purpose-driven, and stimulating learning environment for students, rooted in mutual respect, and establish a framework for discipline using a range of strategies, consistently applying praise, sanctions, and rewards.

● Manage classes effectively, employing approaches that cater to students' needs to motivate and challenge them.

● Maintain positive relationships with students, exercising appropriate authority and acting decisively when needed.

● Serve as a positive role model, consistently demonstrating the attitudes, values, and behaviors expected of students.

● Maintain high expectations for behavior, promoting self-control and independence among all learners.

● Fulfill duties as directed by the Head of Secondary, ensuring the promotion and safeguarding of children and young people within the school, and report any concerns following school protocols.

Team Working and Collaboration

● Engage in relevant meetings and professional development opportunities at the school that address learners' needs and curriculum organization, including pastoral care and assemblies.

● Collaborate as a team member, seeking opportunities to work with colleagues and share effective practices.

● Support new and existing staff, including the induction and assessment of new teachers, those serving induction periods, and, when appropriate, threshold assessments.

● Ensure that colleagues working with you are appropriately involved in supporting student learning and understand their expected roles.

● Participate as required in the review, development, and management of activities related to curriculum, organization, and pastoral functions of the school.

● Cover for absent colleagues when necessary.

Parent, Student, and Community Relationships

● Ensure the safety and well-being of all students through positive reinforcement and high expectations for behavior and conduct.

● Inform the Head of Secondary about any serious student incidents or parent concerns, working collaboratively with ESLT, SLT, and the Safeguarding Team to address issues promptly and respectfully.

● Build and maintain relationships with Secondary School parents and the community, establishing regular and appropriate communication with all members of the school environment.

● Engage Secondary School parents as active partners in their children’s education.

Person Specification

Qualifications


● A recognized teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or iPGCE).

● A degree in Education or a related field.

● Experience teaching in a British or international setting is advantageous.
