About This Role

Join our team as a Science and A-Level Physics Teacher in Madrid.

In this role, you will instruct general science at KS3 and IGCSE levels, alongside A-Level physics at a school that places a high value on science education. With small class sizes and well-equipped laboratories, you'll be part of a dedicated team focused on fostering student success. Our students often progress to prestigious universities across Europe and the UK to study Medicine, Engineering, and Biomedical Sciences.

Holy Mary is an independent British Catholic school located in Madrid, established in 2009. We operate independently, meaning our decisions are made locally rather than dictated by a corporate entity. This results in minimal bureaucracy and more freedom to teach in the manner you believe is most effective.

Why choose Madrid?

Madrid is one of the most vibrant cities in Europe, boasting 300 days of sunshine annually, exceptional food options, efficient public transport, and a lower cost of living compared to other major capitals like London or Dublin. The city has a lively international community, convenient flights to numerous European capitals, and an unparalleled quality of life.

Many educators who initially come for a year find themselves settling in for the long haul.

What we offer

• Competitive salary: 34,000 — 42,000 EUR gross/year (dependent on qualifications and experience).

• Employment type: Permanent from the start (‘contrato indefinido’ in accordance with Spanish labor law).

• Professional growth: Annual CPD programs, funded training, and chances to spearhead departmental initiatives.

• Comprehensive relocation and benefits package for international candidates (details discussed during the interview).

• Visa assistance: Full support with work permits and local regulations — we guide you through the process and reimburse any related expenses.

Why choose Holy Mary?

We pride ourselves on being a family-oriented institution, not part of a larger chain of schools. Founded by educators, we uphold family values in our operations.

What does this mean for you?

• You are recognized as an individual, not just a number. Our headteacher knows each teacher personally. Discussions drive decision-making rather than impersonal HR platforms.

• Our students are eager to learn, class sizes remain small, parental support is strong, and behavior is generally excellent.

• Community is essential. We celebrate achievements together, support one another, and uphold the unique culture that defines our school.

• Our Catholic identity is fundamental, shaping our community, values, and interpersonal relationships. We welcome staff from diverse backgrounds who resonate with these values.

What we seek:

• A qualified teacher status (QTS), PGCE, B.Ed, or equivalent teaching credential.

• A degree in physics or a closely related field.

• Experience in teaching IGCSE science and A-Level physics.

• A genuine passion for the subject and a commitment to fostering student success.

• A dedication to safeguarding and the well-being of children.

• British, EU, and international applicants are encouraged — we assist with visa applications.

Desirable: Experience in a British international school; knowledge of Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel exam boards. However, if you are an outstanding science educator, we want to hear from you no matter your background.

How to apply

Please send your CV and a brief cover letter to vacancies@holymary.es, detailing your interest in Holy Mary and what you can contribute to our science department.

We assess applications on a rolling basis and will conduct interviews promptly. Strong candidates may receive an offer prior to the closing date.
