Reports to: Head of Primary

The Lower School (PK3-Grade 5) Homeroom Teacher employs a dynamic and cooperative approach to guide, nurture, and educate their homeroom students.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and deliver instruction in key subjects (English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies) in accordance with American Common Core or equivalent standards.

• Create engaging units that incorporate inquiry, project-based learning, interdisciplinary connections, and hands-on activities.

• Design and implement an age-appropriate curriculum that merges all subject areas, including Mathematics, Language Arts, and Social Studies.

• Differentiate assignments and assessments to cater to diverse learners, including EAL students and those needing extra support.

• Utilize both informal and formal assessments (such as rubrics, quizzes, writing portfolios, and MAP data if applicable) to inform teaching practices.

• Foster positive classroom behavior through effective discipline strategies, established routines, restorative practices, and clear expectations.

• Attend and engage in team meetings, divisional gatherings, and all-school events.

• Maintain open communication with families via newsletters, meetings, conferences, and learning updates.

• Collaborate with specialist teachers (Art, Music, PE, Languages) to ensure continuity and shared educational objectives.

• Take part in curriculum alignment, grade-level planning, and school-wide initiatives.

• Lead or assist with extracurricular clubs, field trips, celebrations, and assemblies.

• Ensure that the classroom environment is clean, safe, and well-organized.

• Supervise students during meals, playtime, naptime, and transitions.

• Contribute to Lower School events, celebrations, and seasonal activities.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education or a related field.

• Teaching license/certification is mandatory.

• 2–3 years of experience in Lower School teaching is required; experience with the American curriculum is preferred.

• Solid understanding of literacy instruction (guided reading, writing workshop, grammar, phonics) and conceptual mathematics teaching.

• Strong ability to support EAL learners and knowledge of language acquisition processes.

• Excellent communication skills and empathy when working with young children.

• Ability to collaborate effectively within a multicultural environment.

• High levels of patience, creativity, and emotional resilience, along with a strong awareness of safeguarding.

• Qualities of patience, optimism, compassion, enthusiasm, and empathy.

• Conflict resolution skills for managing disagreements among children.

• Creative approach to planning engaging and innovative lessons.

• Capacity to serve as a positive role model for young minds.

Compensation

$4,000 - $5,500 per month
