CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Professional Knowledge: Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the curriculum, subject content, and the developmental stages of students by providing meaningful learning experiences that challenge them to apply higher-order thinking skills.

• Instructional Planning: Implement the school’s curriculum alongside effective methods, resources, and data to meet the varied needs of all learners. Ensure lesson plans are thoroughly prepared with differentiated instruction, engaging material, and a focus on developing a passion for learning.

• Instructional Delivery: Involve students actively in their educational journey through diverse instructional strategies tailored to their unique learning needs. Offer additional support to those requiring extra help and work collaboratively with colleagues, including specialists in EAL and learning differences, to meet the educational needs of every student. Inspire and challenge students from a variety of backgrounds and abilities.

• Assessment of/for Learning: Collect, analyze, and utilize data methodically to assess student progress and learning. Leverage this information to inform instruction, provide timely feedback, refine teaching practices, and support curriculum development aimed at achieving academic excellence for students and the school.

• Learning Environment: Establish resources, routines, and procedures that result in a respectful, positive, safe, and student-focused learning atmosphere. Collaborate with peers to create teaching and learning materials for students at different levels, including online Virtual Learning Environment resources, to meet students’ educational needs while adhering to the agreed curriculum for shared departmental use.

• Professionalism: Maintain a commitment to ethical standards, international-mindedness, and the core values and philosophy of the school, actively participating in professional development aimed at enhancing student learning.

• Communication and Advocacy: Communicate effectively with students, school staff, families, and the broader community to advocate for and support student learning.

• Student Progress: Ensure measurable and acceptable student progress by establishing challenging academic goals based on student data, monitoring progress throughout the year, and evaluating end-of-year achievements.

• Pastoral Care: Foster a secure and stimulating environment for students built on mutual respect, exemplifying high behavioral standards. Support the school’s culture of high attendance and engagement, ensuring comprehensive pastoral care and well-being for every student. Coordinate with parents, guardians, and external agencies as needed.

• Community Engagement: Fully engage with The Experience, our comprehensive co-curricular program, and contribute to activities that enrich the student experience, in line with contractual obligations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Execute the objectives of the relevant program(s).

• Implement concept-based learning in subject delivery.

• Design classes centered on students that are inquiry-driven, conceptually focused, contextualized, collaborative, differentiated, and assessment-informed.

• Partner with the Learning Support Department to create differentiated instruction for students with IEPs and EAL needs.

• Collaborate with educators across various departments and grade levels to foster interdisciplinary connections.

• Promote international mindedness throughout the curriculum.

• Encourage the Lisboan attributes within and beyond the curriculum.

• Organize field trips as necessary to enhance program delivery, utilizing Lisbon as an extension of the classroom.

• Conduct pre-visit assessments of potential field trip sites and fulfill risk assessment requirements.

• Assign homework and projects on the school platform promptly.

• Attend all required meetings.

• Serve as a homeroom advisor for a designated group of students.

• Record attendance, complete reports, document behavioral incidents and accidents, and communicate with parents according to school policies.

• Teach assigned classes/sessions in accordance with contract expectations.

• Participate in student supervision, including assigned duties.

• Contribute to the school’s Experience program.

• Be available for substitute teaching during the school day when not involved in other specific classes/sessions/meetings.

• Carry out any additional related responsibilities assigned by the business or line manager.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant subject(s).

• Qualified to teach in the appropriate age range and subject area.

• Experience teaching the relevant age group, preferably in an international context.

• Experience engaging and supporting parents as partners in their children’s education.

• Strong IT skills are preferred; good IT skills are essential.

• Consistently demonstrate high standards of personal and professional conduct.

• Fluent in English, both spoken and written, with excellent communication abilities.
