About This Role

GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to become part of our SENCO team. The anticipated start date for this position is 01 August 2026.

Key Responsibilities include:
- Upholding and promoting the ethos and high standards outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Delivering the prescribed curriculum with a strong command of the subject matter and staying current with educational developments.
- Crafting and conducting engaging lessons that inspire students, while developing and utilizing suitable materials and classroom environments to accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Providing documented evidence of lesson planning and preparation when requested. Maintaining organized records of curriculum and yearly plans, attendance, teaching resources, and assessment strategies.
- Adhering to all GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct consistently.
- Instructing students based on their unique needs using effective teaching methods tailored to various abilities, including late entrants, ESL learners, those with lower academic capabilities, and gifted students.
- Setting and grading assignments. Evaluating, documenting, and reporting on students' academic growth, progress, and achievement, ensuring the curriculum addresses individual student needs.
- Demonstrating proficiency in utilizing technology and multimedia within the classroom setting.
- Supporting students' overall progress and well-being, and offering guidance on educational issues.
- Engaging with external stakeholders when necessary (e.g., Ministry of Education officials).
- Participating in performance evaluations, Professional Development (CPD), and appraisal processes.
- Collaborating with colleagues to create and enhance teaching materials, resources, study programs, and pastoral care arrangements.
- Taking part in, and leading when appropriate, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities at the school. Fostering positive working relationships through proactive leadership and the sharing of resources and experiences.
- Supervising and promoting safe and appropriate student behavior, while implementing strategies to cultivate self-discipline and manage challenging behavior.
- Modeling cultural awareness and understanding, and encouraging a passion for learning.
- Assisting in the coordination and planning of school events and functions (e.g., inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, and prize days).
- Regularly communicating with parents to promote the GEMS philosophy and core values; keeping parents informed about their children’s progress while maintaining confidentiality regarding student information.
- Demonstrating initiative and commitment beyond standard work hours when required by the tasks at hand.
- Attending staff meetings and serving on committees as needed.
- Carrying out additional duties as assigned by direct and indirect supervisors.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
*Estimated range based on regional data averages.
