Title: College Counselor
Reports to: Head of College Counseling
The Island Private School of Limassol in Cyprus proudly opened its doors to its first 500 students in September 2022 and is now on the lookout for an experienced, passionate, and dedicated College Counselor to join our team.
Currently, we are in the planning stages of a new campus, which will be developed on an impressive 50,000 m2 site, with a completion target around the end of 2027. This new facility will accommodate kindergarten, elementary, and high schools, an international boarding school, as well as housing for faculty. This represents a thrilling opportunity to be part of a growing school at a pivotal moment in its evolution.
The Position:
As a College Counselor, you will play a crucial role in supporting students as they navigate their academic journeys and the college admissions process. Your duties will include academic advising, college admissions assistance, career counseling, and addressing personal and social matters related to higher education. This position will primarily focus on the local and EU university frameworks while also aiding in the development of career and university guidance programs for the MYP and younger students as detailed in our strategic plan.
Responsibilities:
1. Engagement and Interaction – School Ambassador to Internal Community:
- Promote the mission and values of the school
- Foster a safe and purposeful learning environment for all students
- Support the growth and well-being of every student
- Motivate and encourage students to pursue their own goals and those of their peers
- Supervise students during both academic and extracurricular activities as part of the regular school curriculum
- Participate in extracurricular duties that contribute to the school's development
2. Individualized College Counseling:
- Work closely with high school students to create tailored college plans that include academic and extracurricular guidance, standardized testing strategies, and course selections.
- Provide support and direction to parents and guardians regarding career and college planning.
3. College Application Support:
- Assist students in preparing and submitting college applications, including help with essays, resumes, and other essential documents.
4. Admissions Testing:
- Provide guidance on SAT/ACT test preparation, registration, and strategies for success.
5. College Research:
- Stay informed on college admissions trends and maintain a detailed database of colleges and universities worldwide, including their programs, admission criteria, and scholarship opportunities.
6. Financial Aid and Scholarships:
- Advise students and parents on financial aid options and scholarships, and assist with FAFSA and CSS Profile submissions.
7. Interview Preparation:
- Conduct mock interviews and help students prepare for college admissions interviews.
8. Campus Visits:
- Organize college fairs, campus visits, and informational sessions to expose students to a range of college options.
Requirements:
• A bachelor's degree in education, psychology, or a related field
• Relevant experience in education or counseling
• Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues
• Familiarity with college admissions processes, requirements, and current trends
• Ability to empathize with students and exhibit patience in addressing their concerns
• Strong organizational skills to manage caseloads and conduct workshops
• Knowledge of the local higher education landscape in Cyprus would be a plus
