About This Role

Head of Primary German (m/f/d)

St. George’s School is seeking an energetic leader for the German department in our Primary School, starting in August 2026.

The School

Established in September 2013, St. George’s School Munich has quickly evolved into a vibrant community with over 800 students and 100 educators. The school is dedicated to providing a rich curriculum complemented by family-oriented support, fostering a warm and engaging atmosphere for both staff and students.

In September 2017, the school transitioned to an exciting new chapter by moving to a purpose-built campus in the heart of the city. These facilities offer exceptional educational resources for all ages and subjects.

The National Curriculum is followed throughout the school, with IGCSE qualifications available for Upper School pupils. Sixth Form students are prepared for the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

As part of a network of three schools across Germany, St. George’s offers the successful candidate a variety of professional development and growth opportunities within the school group.

The Location

Our new campus is situated in the Schwabing-Freimann district, just north of the city center. The location benefits from excellent access to the U6 metro line and the A9 motorway.

Munich, the capital of Bavaria and Germany's third largest city, serves as a vibrant cultural hub with a diverse international community. Nestled at the northern edge of the Alps, it offers a high standard of living and countless opportunities for travel and outdoor activities.

Munich Airport is located 30km from the school, providing numerous daily flights to the UK, while high-speed rail connections facilitate travel to various European destinations.

The Role

We are looking to appoint a seasoned professional to lead the German Department in our Primary School. This is an exhilarating opportunity for an innovative and forward-thinking educator.

The ideal candidate will be a passionate teacher with previous leadership experience. We seek someone who embodies a blend of experience, enthusiasm, and a fervor for teaching that will motivate both students and colleagues.

Proficiency in English and familiarity with the English National Curriculum are essential. A strong inclination to engage in the department's vibrant extracurricular activities would be a plus.

Given the school's expanding and evolving nature, flexibility and a willingness to support fellow team members are crucial. A commitment to enhancing the school's rich pastoral and extracurricular environment will also be advantageous.

German is a fundamental part of our curriculum and is mandatory for all primary school students. While English is the primary language of instruction, there is an expectation that all pupils achieve a high level of fluency and literacy in the local language.

German is taught at various differentiated levels, with classes divided between first language learners and those learning it as a second language. Second language learners follow an accelerated course, aiming for proficiency, while first language learners adhere to the local German curriculum.
