Position Title: Athletic Trainer. This role is specialized and is not focused on PE teaching or athletic administration; rather, it is dedicated to the health, injury prevention, performance enhancement, and wellbeing education of student-athletes.

Position Overview:

The Athletic Trainer is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and long-term growth of student-athletes in Grades 6–12. This position leads a comprehensive Athletic Development Pathway that includes medical care, injury prevention, performance preparation, and wellbeing education, collaborating closely with coaches, nursing staff, and school leadership to promote safe and sustainable athletic involvement.

Key Responsibilities


Athletic Development & Performance

● Develop and implement the Athletic Development Pathway for Grades 6–12, ensuring training loads are suitable for the physical development of students.

● Create and oversee periodized strength, mobility, and conditioning programs for varsity teams and selected high-performance athletes.

● Conduct assessments of movement and performance to guide personalized programming and minimize injury risk.

● Maintain a Prehab exercise library for student and coach utilization during daily warm-ups and training sessions.

Medical Care, Rehabilitation & Return to Play

● Provide medical coverage for school-sponsored practices, competitions, designated travel events, and select evenings and weekends.

● Evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate injuries utilizing individualized, evidence-based physiotherapy care plans, including advanced manual therapy techniques within the scope of practice.

● Manage the Return-to-Play (RTP) pathway, serving as the definitive clinical authority on the readiness of student-athletes for high-intensity or contact sports.

● Deliver emergency care as needed and coordinate referrals to external medical providers when necessary.

● Maintain precise, confidential medical records.

Injury Prevention, Concussion & Emergency Preparedness

● Design and execute evidence-based injury prevention and prehab programs for all age groups.

● Lead concussion management protocols for Grades 6–12, encompassing return-to-learn and return-to-play procedures.

● Contribute to the development, training, and implementation of the Athletics Emergency Action Plan (EAP).

● Manage travel medical kits and offer remote medical support for teams competing abroad.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Wellbeing, Safeguarding & Collaboration

● Ensure all interactions comply with international safeguarding and Child Protection standards, maintaining professionalism in one-on-one interactions.

● Lead regular Athlete Wellbeing meetings with coaches and nurses to monitor students at risk due to injury, workload, or wellbeing issues.

● Provide guidance to coaches regarding suitable medical accommodations for student-athletes with chronic health conditions.

● Incorporate performance-focused wellbeing strategies (e.g., mindfulness, recovery practices) and refer to counseling professionals as necessary.

Education, Data & Program Support

● Conduct workshops focused on the Student-Athlete Life, covering topics such as sleep, nutrition, hydration, mental health, and performance.

● Offer professional development for coaches on athlete health, injury prevention, and workload management.

● Gather and track relevant health and performance data in accordance with school policy and consent requirements.

● Oversee the procurement of athletic training equipment, supplies, and annual budgeting in partnership with the Director of Athletics.

● Assist in assessing athletic facilities and equipment to lower injury risks.

Professional Standards

● Maintain the highest ethical, legal, and professional standards in athletic training, physiotherapy, performance, and wellbeing support.

● Perform additional duties consistent with this role as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
