Position Profile
• Direct teaching experience in the UK is preferred

Specific Responsibilities of Teaching Position
• Develop and deliver lessons in accordance with the Scheme of Work, utilizing diverse learning activities
• Design and implement assessments aligned with departmental standards, and produce reports that meet required timelines
• Continuously evaluate student performance, provide constructive feedback, and create assessments to track progress and identify improvement areas
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to foster a positive and cooperative work atmosphere by sharing resources and best practices
• Opportunities to teach AP Economics
• Potential for teaching RPQ (projects) & GNT (Gifted and Talented)
Brief Description of SCIE
We are a UK curriculum high school (Cambridge International AS/AL & IGCSE) delivering instruction in English primarily to Chinese students preparing for international university admissions.
Since 2025, we have also introduced an AP stream, offering teachers chances to engage in AP subjects across various disciplines.

Subject Department Introduction:
The Economics department comprises 18 staff members within a larger Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, which includes 40 teachers in total. The primary focus is on economics, though there are also classes in Business Studies and Accounting. Prospective teachers will have the opportunity to teach AS, AL, and IGCSE Economics, with potential assignments in AS/AL Accounting or IGCSE Business Studies. Economics is highly favored within the school, with over half of the students selecting it at GL level and a significant portion continuing to A Level. The results are impressive, with over 80% achieving A/A* at IGCSE and approximately two-thirds at A-Level. Each year, many students apply to top universities in the UK, USA, and HK for courses in Economics, Accounting & Finance, or Business-related fields.
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Economics Teacher to become part of our educational team. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of economic principles and a strong dedication to creating a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere for students. As an Economics Teacher, you will be instrumental in guiding students to enhance their economic understanding and critical thinking abilities, particularly in the context of Cambridge A Level and IGCSE Economics, Business Studies, and Accounting courses.

• Students complete IGCSE exams at the end of G2, then pursue 5/6 subjects at AS, and 4/5 at AL (including English) or engage in an AP curriculum

Schedule
• Working week: Monday – Friday 07:50 – 16:40 (with a 07:30 start on Mondays and an early finish at 15:00 on Fridays)
• Standard contact teaching time is 24 x 40-minute periods per week (approximately 50% of the timetable)
• Personal time includes 6 periods per week fixed in the timetable when attendance is not required
• Extra-Curricular Activity – 1 hour per week ECA after school (16:30 – 17:30)
• CPD – Extensive professional development opportunities available both online and in-person
• Holidays – 1 week for October China National Day, 2 weeks for Christmas, 3 weeks for Chinese New Year, public holidays in China, and a summer break from mid-June to early August.
Pastoral
Pastoral care is integral to our mission at SCIE. All classroom teachers play a role in looking after the holistic well-being of students, promoting safety, belonging, and well-being throughout their time at the college.
• Form tutor role – Most teachers are required to take on a form group of about 20 students. This includes regular individual mentoring sessions as part of the timetable, holding form time with the group, and teaching a weekly PSHE lesson. As the primary contact for students, form tutors are responsible for understanding their tutees beyond academics. This role comes with an additional allowance.
• Teachers without a form tutor role may be assigned other pastoral duties as needed.
• Pastoral professional development – In addition to annual safeguarding training, there are further opportunities to enhance expertise in this area and contribute to the school's overall pastoral development.
