About This Role

SPGS International School emphasizes the safety and welfare of children above all else. Child protection is a top priority, and all staff members will undergo comprehensive vetting procedures, including an interview with a safeguarding panel. Newly hired employees must complete an enhanced pre-employment screening that includes identity verification, criminal background checks, verification of qualifications, and a review of employment history, addressing any gaps. THE ROLE

We are on the lookout for a dedicated, dynamic, and creative Homeroom Teacher (EYFS) to start in August 2026. The ideal candidate will have the ability to inspire a love for learning in children and will be dedicated to advancing the school's mission, values, and comprehensive educational philosophy.

CONTRACT TYPE:

Full-time, two-year contract, with the possibility of extension based on performance.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

I. QUALIFICATION

Essential: Qualified Teacher Status (UK), PGCE, or a Degree in Primary Education.

NQT: Exceptional NQTs are welcome to apply to join our teaching team.

II. EXPERIENCE

Candidates must have:

• A minimum of two years of experience teaching Key Stage 1 education in the UK.

• Confidence and experience working with children aged 3-6 years.

III. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Essential: The successful candidate should demonstrate:

• In-depth knowledge and experience of the Key Stage 1 curriculum framework.

• An understanding of how children's learning is shaped by their physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development, along with a grasp of various stages of child development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Summary

• Carry out the teaching and professional duties of an EYFS class teacher, adhering to the standards required for Qualified Teacher Status in line with school policies and guidelines.

• Nurture a culture of learning and a zest for life among students.

• Engage professionally with parents.

• Contribute to the development and enhancement of the SPGS International curriculum.

• Work collaboratively with fellow educators, especially the Chinese Co-teacher, to co-plan lessons and share expertise.

• Stay updated on developments from the Department for Education and lead the department in curriculum knowledge.

• Comply with education laws and policies of both the UK and the People’s Republic of China.

General

• Follow the policies and procedures of SPGS International.

• Embody the school’s values and ethos.

• Serve as a positive role model regarding communication, attire, behavior, and resource care, in alignment with the Staff Code of Conduct.

• Consistently meet deadlines.

Safeguarding

• Recognize and respect each child's social, cultural, and religious background, demonstrating mutual respect and tolerance.

• Implement SPGS International’s safeguarding policy to ensure the health and safety of children during school hours, both on and off campus.

• Understand that health and safety are collective responsibilities, taking reasonable care for oneself and others, and adhering to the school's well-being and safeguarding policies, as well as relevant laws of The People’s Republic of China and any specific school procedures related to this role.

• Participate in assemblies, take attendance, and supervise students.

Curriculum Development, Planning & Teaching

• Create syllabuses, schemes of work, assessment criteria, and materials for EYFS that align with the UK National Curriculum, Chinese education authority requirements, and SPGS International’s enriched and localized curriculum.

• Participate in designing an innovative and localized curriculum for EYFS students to promote their academic and personal success.

• Ensure the school’s values and personal objectives are reflected in daily practices and teaching materials.

• Collaborate in organizing school events, including enrichment activities and long-term curriculum planning.

Pastoral Care

• Utilize morning registration as part of your pastoral responsibilities.

• Follow the Pastoral Role guidelines as outlined in the teachers’ handbook at SPGS International.

• Take an active interest in students' academic and extracurricular activities, ensuring they feel valued and supported.

• Share responsibility for the pastoral care, health, welfare, and behavior of all students, particularly those in your designated class.

• Lead Personal Development programs with your form group.

• Monitor the work of class/form students, providing necessary guidance and support.

• Maintain relevant records for individual student files and prepare reports.

• Coordinate a buddy program to facilitate regular student interactions across year groups.

Performance Management and Professional Development

• Participate in the school’s Professional Performance Review and teaching development initiatives.

Assessment and Reporting

Staff Wellbeing

• Implement a consistent approach for tracking, assessing, recording, and reporting on children's progress as required.

Behavior Management

• Uphold the behavior expectations of SPGS International School, ensuring adherence to standards regarding attire, punctuality, and school rules across all activities, including off-campus events.

Classroom, School Resources Management, and Display

• Ensure a well-organized, welcoming, and efficiently managed classroom and school environment.

• Take responsibility for the organization of classroom resources, ensuring accessibility for students.

• Create an engaging and stimulating learning atmosphere with displays that are regularly updated and relevant to student work.

Homework

• Assign appropriate and challenging tasks for students.

• Collaborate with colleagues to design, share, and monitor homework assignments.

ICT/AI and GDPR

• Adhere to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the data protection policies of SPGS International.

• Enhance your ICT skills to effectively utilize technology available to students while fostering their own skill development.

School Meetings

• Attend and contribute to staff meetings as necessary, including department, year group, teaching and learning development, and curriculum meetings.

• Participate in parents’ evenings and open events, which may occur during evenings or weekends, as reasonably requested by the Headteacher.

School Assemblies

• Conduct at least three school assemblies throughout the academic year, involving presentations from the entire class.

School Enrichment Events/Activities

• Assist in planning, organizing, or delivering school enrichment activities and events, including residential programs as appropriate.

Extra-Curricular Duties

• Lead or supervise at least one weekly extra-curricular activity as part of the school's program.

• Help organize and assist with sporting events, school concerts, and excursions as applicable.

Duty and Cover

• Supervise students during non-instructional times as outlined in the duty rota.

• Coordinate with colleagues and maintain flexibility, including covering for staff absences.

Risk Management

• Adhere to the school's risk management policy, ensuring that all events and activities (including off-campus trips) are safe, educational, and enjoyable, consulting with the Head of Primary School when necessary.

• Ensure the safety and security of all children and staff, reporting any concerns to the Head of Primary School or designated personnel.

Communication with Parents

• Follow SPGS International School's policies regarding communication with parents, fostering strong relationships and open dialogue with families of students in your care.

• Keep parents and children informed about the curriculum, achievements, and contributions to improvements.

• Attend parents’ evenings as required.

• Participate in parent education seminars or other events as requested by the school.

Ambassador for the School

• Build quality relationships with all stakeholders.

• Foster a sense of community among staff, parents, and students that encourages support for the school’s vision and mission.
