About This Role
The teaching assistant responsibilities are to:
· check learning objectives and goals.
· refocus pupils on their learning.
· ensure relevant learning materials and equipment are out/available.
· scaffold support from self-scaffolding to prompting, clueing, modelling and finally correcting (if needed).
· provide the right amount of support at the right time.
· ask open-ended questions and use effective questioning; answer a question with another question.
· encourage learners to take risks with their learning.
· model or role-play expected learning with teacher. Model the processes of finding out and experimenting with possibilities.
· ensure pupils refer to/ understand success criteria. Explicitly, check learners understand what they need to do, what they will learn and what outcome is expected by the end of the engagement.
· observe and note learning difficulties, achievements, and feed back to the teacher.
· provide prompts on group objectives and roles required and give time checks.
· note issues, mistakes, misconceptions, and difficulties for follow-up by teacher.
· encourage interaction among learners.
· encourage students to reflect on their learning. Prompt recall and use of relevant strategies if necessary
· monitor and record responses of learners (note difficulties and achievements)
· clarify next steps in students’ learning.
· ensure students understand homework (where applicable) and are clear about any follow-up required.
· provide feedback on any misconceptions, difficulties, etc., issues with behavior for learning to the teacher.
· Actively engage in professional inquiry (PLC, action research, workshops, study groups, critical friends, data teams…) with the aim of continually reflecting upon practices and improving learning for all students.
· Reflect by examining beliefs about professional duties in order to conduct self with integrity and transparency, connect and build learning communities, and respect and promote organizational, local, and global cultures.
