SEND Teaching Assistant

Riverside Primary School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, caring and adaptable SEND Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and dedicated team.

The successful candidate will work with pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, supporting them to access learning, develop independence and participate fully in school life. The role may involve supporting individual pupils, small groups and children within the classroom, working closely with class teachers and the SENCo.

We are looking for someone who is patient, nurturing and committed to ensuring that every child is able to thrive.

The role will include:

Supporting pupils with SEND to access learning and make progress.

Delivering targeted interventions and individual or small-group support as directed by the teacher or SENCo.

Adapting resources and activities to meet pupils’ individual needs.

Using appropriate strategies to support communication, interaction, emotional regulation and behaviour.

Promoting pupils’ independence rather than creating over-reliance on adult support.

Supporting pupils to develop positive relationships, confidence and social skills.

Supporting pupils with sensory, physical or personal care needs where appropriate.

Working closely with teachers, the SENCo and other professionals to implement individual support plans and EHCP provision.

Observing and recording pupils’ progress and providing feedback to teachers and the SENCo.

Supporting pupils during transitions, breaktimes, lunchtimes, educational visits and other aspects of school life.

Maintaining high expectations for safeguarding, behaviour and inclusion.

Undertaking relevant training and professional development.

Is flexible and able to respond to the differing needs of pupils.

Can work effectively as part of a team while also using their own initiative.

Understands the importance of promoting independence and inclusion.

Is organised, reliable and committed to high standards.

Has experience of working with children in a school or educational setting.

Has experience of supporting pupils with SEND; experience of needs such as ASD, ADHD, speech, language and communication needs, SEMH or sensory needs would be desirable.

Holds GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
