Anton Bruckner International School is seeking to recruit an experienced, flexible, and capable PYP Learning Support Teacher to start in September 2026. The PYP Learning Support Teacher must hold a recognized teaching qualification in learning support or something similar. The Learning Support Teacher supports students with identified learning needs through Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), targeted interventions, and in-class support. Working collaboratively with teachers and leadership, the role contributes to inclusive practices and the ongoing development of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) within the IB PYP.
Skills and Qualifications
Qualified degree (Master’s preferred)
Recognized teaching qualification in home country
Two years minimum experience
Experience supporting children with diverse learning needs across a range of contexts
Commitment to ongoing IB and other professional development
Willingness to develop and promote a growing school, staff, and student body
Experience in an international school context is essential; IB experience preferable
Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
Experience with, or understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) desirable
Have a high level of fluency and accuracy in both spoken and written English and preferably German
Be able to provide a background check (criminal record)
Positive, collaborative, and approachable interpersonal style
Key Responsibilities
Learning Support and Student Intervention
The Learning Support Teacher is expected to:
Provide targeted support through in-class, small group, and short-term individual interventions
Lead sessions outside the classroom (1:1 and small group) where appropriate
Collaborate with professionals to assess and identify student needs
Plan and resource intervention sessions
Support students in developing skills such as attention, behaviour, motivation, and self-management in line with ILPs
Provide in-class support to enable access to the curriculum
Identify students who would benefit from targeted instruction and support them for defined periods of time
Collaborate with teachers to design differentiated, modified, and scaffolded learning experiences and assessments
Observe students and provide feedback on progress and learning needs
Use formative assessment to inform interventions and monitor student progress
Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
Maintain clear and relevant documentation of student support and progress
Review and adjust support based on student progress, ensuring interventions are targeted and time-bound
Inclusive Practice
The Learning Support Teacher is expected to:
Support the implementation of inclusive teaching practices, such as UDL principles to improve access and engagement for learners across the school
Work with teachers to reduce barriers to learning through flexible and responsive approaches
Support the development of learning environments that reflect the diversity of learners
Collaboration and Advisory Role
The Learning Support Teacher is expected to:
Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to support student learning
Advise and support teachers and teaching assistants in implementing effective strategies for diverse learners
Liaise with parents and external professionals as appropriate
Work as an effective member of collaborative teams
Share relevant information with staff to support student progress
Contribute to building staff capacity in inclusive practices through modelling, coaching, and dialogue
Teaching and Learning
The Learning Support Teacher is expected to:
Support the delivery of the curriculum through inquiry-based and concept-driven approaches
Embed IB Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills in support sessions
Support the development of the IB Learner Profile attributes, particularly as they relate to student agency and self-management
Collaborate in planning to ensure access for all learners
Provide feedback to support student progress
Safeguarding and Student Wellbeing
The Learning Support Teacher is expected to:
Uphold and contribute to the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies
Recognise and report concerns related to student wellbeing
Work collaboratively with the School Counselor and leadership to support at-risk students
Maintain appropriate confidentiality in line with safeguarding expectations.
Professional Responsibilities
The Learning Support Teacher is expected to:
Reflect on the effectiveness of practice
Participate in collaborative planning and professional dialogue
Maintain clear and up-to-date records
Communicate effectively with all stakeholders
Maintain professional relationships with students, parents, and staff
Engage in ongoing professional development
Contribute to the development of the school
Work collaboratively with the Learning Support team, School Counselor, and leadership to ensure a coordinated approach to student support
General Responsibilities
The Learning Support Teacher is expected to:
Support school and community activities
Undertake duties as required by the Principal within the scope of the role
