Purpose of Role

Your mission is to motivate students in the subject you teach, contributing to their enjoyment and success in learning.

Responsible to: The Head of Secondary for all aspects of the role

Responsible for: The assigned students in designated Science classes

Responsibilities

  • Actively promote and support the BCIS Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Align teaching methodologies with the BCIS Learning Principles within the Science educational setting.
  • Implement all school policies relevant to staff and students.

Key Tasks

Learning and Teaching

  • Collaborate with the Head of Department and fellow educators to design, prepare, instruct, and assess schemes of work as dictated by the National Curriculum of England and Wales (in an international context) and exam board specifications for assessments and external examinations.
  • Ensure that all planning and preparation is customized to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Employ a diverse range of teaching and learning strategies that correspond with the BCIS Learning Principles to achieve curricular goals and accommodate all students through differentiation and group focus.
  • Establish a learning environment that reflects the BCIS Learning Principles in practice.
  • Provide consistent feedback and assess student work in line with School and Subject Policies, integrating assessment for learning (AfL) practices.
  • Analyze assessment data to guide planning for individual learners and entire classes.
  • Assign homework regularly as per the school’s Homework Policy to reinforce and expand students' learning, encouraging them to take ownership of their education.
  • Oversee the assessment, recording, and reporting for students, adhering to school and subject policies.
  • Organize trips and events related to the subject matter to enrich student learning experiences.
  • Prepare suitable cover work for your absence from school.
  • Provide coverage for absent colleagues when feasible and equitable.
  • Meet regularly with the Secondary Sciences department for discussions, feedback, and planning.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with EAL mainstream teachers to ensure a smooth transition between the immersion program and mainstream Science classes.
  • Work in partnership with learning support/SEN teachers.
  • Liaise with Primary School teachers as necessary regarding student transitions.
  • Encourage and foster positive relationships between home and school.
  • Report to parents during consultation meetings and through end-of-year reports.
  • Be available to parents at mutually agreed times as needed.

Professional Development

  • Engage in the school, department, and individual review process (School Self-Evaluation).
  • Actively seek opportunities for CPD/professional learning to stay informed about current best practices in the UK and globally.
  • Attend meetings, workshops, and courses provided in school that support the School Improvement.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
