About This Role
About Lumio:
Lumio Private School is a not‑for‑profit international school in Cyprus, opened in 2024. Our vision is simple: Happy children, learning together. We are building a vibrant learning community on a modern campus near Paphos, designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.
We are proud to offer:
Contemporary classrooms
Well-equipped science and IT labs
Dedicated arts and performance spaces
Expansive sports facilities and extracurricular activities
The Role:
We are seeking a Design Teacher who can confidently deliver both Product Design and Digital Design within the IB MYP framework, ideally through a combined and integrated approach. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong grounding in design thinking as an explicit, teachable process and can make design thinking visible to students.
This role goes beyond delivering a predefined curriculum. We are looking for an educator who sees design as a process — bringing together digital thinking, physical prototyping, systems thinking, and iteration — and who can guide students through meaningful, real-world design challenges. They are comfortable with ambiguity and open-ended problems, and know how to balance creative freedom with purposeful structure.
While experience with the IB MYP Design framework is valued, we are not solely looking for a certified IB Design teacher. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate strong design thinking, practical technical competence, and the ability to naturally connect digital and physical design practices in the classroom. Professional or industry experience in Product Design, Digital Design, or a closely related field is highly valued.
Key responsibilities:
Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality, inquiry-driven Design lessons aligned with the IB MYP Design objectives and assessment criteria.
Design authentic and engaging units of inquiry that integrate Digital Design and Product Design, conceptual understanding, and relevant global contexts.
Guide students through the MYP Design Cycle, promoting experimentation, problem-solving, iteration, and reflective practice.
Support students in developing and applying design thinking, technical skills, and systems thinking through meaningful, real-world design challenges.
Provide constructive and timely feedback to support student progress, independence, and growing design literacy, with a strong emphasis on formative feedback that drives iteration rather than focusing only on outcomes.
Create a safe, well-organised, and stimulating learning environment that values process, experimentation, and student work.
Work with tools, materials, and equipment commonly used in design and prototyping activities, ensuring safe, purposeful, and well-managed practical learning experiences.
Confidently manage long-term, project-based learning, scaffolding complex design processes without over-directing student outcomes.
Maintain accurate documentation, assessment records, and reporting in line with IB expectations and school procedures.
Facilitate opportunities for exhibitions, showcases, and project-based presentations that celebrate student learning and design outcomes.
Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning, STEM-related initiatives, and whole-school projects.
Participate in IB training, professional development, and ongoing curriculum planning.
Uphold school policies, safeguard student wellbeing, and model the school’s values and mission.
Teaching & Learning Approach:
Design learning experiences that encourage inquiry, experimentation, reflection, and iteration.
Support students in managing open-ended, long-term design projects, helping them plan, test, refine, and evaluate their work.
Differentiate instruction to meet a range of abilities, interests, and learning styles, ensuring inclusive access to open-ended design challenges.
Foster independence, responsibility, and confidence as young designers.
Translate complex design concepts and tools into clear, age-appropriate learning experiences for MYP students.
Support students in explicitly embedding conceptual understanding, ATL skills, and global contexts within practical design work.
Collaboration & School Life:
Work collaboratively with colleagues across Design, Computer Science, Science, and other subject areas.
Contribute to interdisciplinary learning and wider STEM-focused initiatives.
Participate in school events, exhibitions, and activities that celebrate student learning
Where appropriate, contribute to after-school clubs, enrichment activities, or project-based STEM opportunities, supporting students who wish to explore design and technology beyond the classroom.
Support or mentor students interested in extended design challenges, competitions, or enrichment pathways beyond the core curriculum.
Contribute positively to the professional, collaborative culture of the school.
Professional Growth & Support:
Engage in ongoing professional development, including IB training where appropriate.
Reflect on teaching practice and contribute to shared departmental resources and curriculum development.
Remain open to feedback, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
Demonstrate curiosity and adaptability, staying current with developments in design, digital tools, and contemporary design practice.
Candidate Profile:
Hold a Bachelor's degree in ICT, Product or Digital Design, or a related discipline. An advanced degree (MSc, MEd, PhD) will be considered a plus.
Previous IB experience is valued but not essential. The school provides support for teachers who are developing their understanding of the IB framework.
Communicate fluently in English and thrive in diverse, international settings.
See design as an iterative, inquiry-driven process, not just a technical subject.
Bring energy, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit to the educational setting.
Feel comfortable with ambiguity and open-ended challenges.
Maintain a thoughtful balance between structure and creative freedom.
Have a reflective, collaborative, and student-centred mindset.
We offer:
A rare opportunity to join a newly established international school, where you'll gain advanced professional experience and refine innovative problem-solving skills alongside a team of seasoned educators.
Freedom to shape your teaching approach, leveraging your unique skill set and personalised methodologies to make a lasting impact on student learning.
Comprehensive relocation support, including financial assistance for travel, help with securing accommodation, guidance throughout the migration process, and generous discounts on tuition fees for your children.
Full legal assistance during the migration journey, with extended support available for accompanying family members. Includes a guaranteed two-year work contract to ensure stability and peace of mind.
Competitive salary, negotiable based on your qualifications and professional experience.
