Reports to: Head of Primary
The Lower School (PK3-Grade 5) Homeroom teacher brings an innovative and highly collaborative approach
to leading, nurturing, and teaching their homeroom class of students.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plan and deliver instruction in core subjects (English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies) aligned with American Common Core or similar standards.
• Design engaging units incorporating inquiry, project- based learning, cross-disciplinary connections, and hands-on experiences.
• Create and implement an age-appropriate curriculum that integrates all subject areas including Mathematics, Language Arts, and Social Studies
• Differentiate tasks and assessments to meet the needs of diverse learners, including EAL students and those requiring additional support.
• Use informal and formal assessments (rubrics, quizzes, writing portfolios, MAP data if applicable) to guide instruction.
• Manage classroom behaviour through positive discipline, routines, restorative approaches, and clear expectations.
• Attend and participate in team, divisional, and all school meetings
• Maintain clear communication with families through newsletters, meetings, conferences, and learning updates.
• Collaborate with specialist teachers (Art, Music, PE, Languages) to ensure continuity and shared learning goals.
• Participate in curriculum alignment, grade-level planning, and school initiatives.
• Lead or support extracurricular clubs, field trips, celebrations, and assemblies.
• Making sure that the classroom is clean, safe, and well-organized.
• Supervise children during meals, playground time, naps, and transitions.
• Contribute to Lower School Years events, celebrations, and seasonal activities.
REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education or relevant subject area.
• Teaching license/certification required.
• Minimum 2–3 years of Lower School teaching experience; experience in American curriculum preferred.
• Strong understanding of literacy instruction (guided reading, writing workshop, grammar, phonics) and conceptual math teaching.
• Strong EAL support ability and familiarity with language acquisition processes.
• Excellent communication and empathy with young children.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
• High patience, creativity, and emotional resilience. Strong safeguarding awareness.
• Patience, optimism, compassion, enthusiasm, and empathy.
• Mediation skills for resolving conflicts between children.
• Creative mindset to plan innovative, exciting lessons.
• Ability to stand as a positive role model for impressionable minds.
