About This Role
Job Responsibilities:
- Create and manage the timetable by allocating staff to suitable courses, organizing arrangements, establishing a staff responsibility framework, assigning classrooms, coordinating teaching groups at the beginning of the year, monitoring these groups throughout the academic year, and setting up termly essay/task schedules for students as necessary.
- Regularly review and update departmental policies as needed.
- Request necessary staff appointments within the department and engage in the interview and hiring process as directed by the Principal.
- Work closely with department staff to continually evaluate the department's effectiveness through lesson observations and by monitoring marking and assessment practices.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and relevant support staff to address pastoral issues or learning barriers.
- Contribute to the uniform application of school-wide behavior, wellbeing, and safeguarding policies.
- Assist in organizing assemblies, student leadership initiatives, and events that promote positive behavior while upholding school values alongside academic excellence.
- Ensure the consistent application of the school’s behavior expectations, aiding teachers in implementing restorative and positive behavior strategies.
- Lead initiatives that promote kindness, respect, and anti-bullying practices throughout the academic year.
- Provide pastoral support and guidance to Grade Leaders or Year Coordinators to maintain consistent care and high expectations for all students.
Standards:
- Act as a role model for outstanding teaching, professionalism, and pastoral care.
- Stay updated on curriculum developments and best practices in pedagogy and pastoral care.
- Ensure all students receive thorough preparation for both internal and external assessments while cultivating confident and well-rounded individuals.
Other Duties:
- May be asked to take on additional responsibilities, including teaching, as directed by the Principal.
- Carry out any other tasks that align with the role as reasonably requested by management.
Each Head of Department will develop a SMART action plan for their department, pinpointing strengths and areas for improvement. Heads of Department are required to provide evidence or action plans directed at meeting the standards established by the Regulator and any relevant Inspection and Accreditation Bodies. They will present qualitative and quantitative evidence that assesses the applicable sections of any inspection or accreditation frameworks related to their department.
OSH Roles and Responsibilities include:
- Report OSH concerns to their direct Supervisor or OSH department.
- Ensure effective supervision of students and be knowledgeable about fire, first aid, and emergency procedures, executing them as necessary.
- Follow OSH procedures relevant to their work area.
- Provide clear verbal and written health and safety instructions to students as necessary.
- Ensure the use of personal protective equipment and guards when required.
- Recommend any necessary OSH equipment and improvements to tools, equipment, or machinery to their Heads of Department/School Principal.
- Ensure that personal items of equipment (electrical or mechanical) are not brought into the school without prior approval.
- Regularly inspect classrooms for potential hazards and report any findings to the Facilities Manager.
- Immediately report all accidents, defects, and dangerous occurrences to their Head of Department.
- Remain vigilant in their work area, identifying and reporting imminent dangers or concerns regarding the environment, health, and safety.
