We are seeking an inspirational PE and Health leader to head our dynamic department and drive excellence in teaching and learning.

Glenfield College is a co-educational secondary school located on Auckland’s North Shore, known for its inclusive community, strong academic focus, and commitment to student well-being. The role

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Department to lead, mentor, and grow our PE and Health department. The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership and strategic development of PE and Health education across junior and senior levels, including NCEA.

This is a key middle leadership role within the school and a fantastic opportunity to shape a progressive and supportive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead planning and implementation of a knowledge-rich curriculum.
  • Inspire and support a team of teachers through collaborative leadership and professional development that supports evidence-informed teaching practices.
  • Oversee assessment practices, tracking of student progress, and use of data to inform teaching.
  • Ensure alignment with NCEA and Ministry of Education guidelines.
  • Collaborate with SLT to support whole-school initiatives and student achievement.
  • Involvement in our school-wide mentoring programme.
  • Promote and support the school’s co-curricular sport programme. 

What we’re looking for

  • NZ registered teacher.
  • Must have the right to live and work in New Zealand.
  • Proven experience in teaching PE and Health at senior levels, including NCEA Level 3.
  • Leadership experience (HoD, TIC, or similar) or strong readiness to take the next step.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum and assessment frameworks.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • A commitment to inclusive and culturally responsive practice, including Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.
