About the Role
The EAL Coordinator will be responsible for leading the development and enhancement of the school's comprehensive EAL strategy. Key duties include the identification, assessment, and monitoring of multilingual learners, as well as the creation and management of targeted EAL interventions. The ideal candidate will support classroom educators by offering adaptive teaching methods, provide ongoing professional development (CPD) centered on effective EAL practices, and track student progress and intervention outcomes. Building strong relationships with parents and external partners is crucial, along with maintaining accurate records in compliance with school and ADEK regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
The EAL Coordinator will spearhead the development and implementation of the school’s EAL framework, ensuring timely identification and assessment of multilingual learners. They will oversee the use of appropriate assessment tools to measure language proficiency and guarantee that all support aligns with the Tiered Model of Support (Universal, Targeted, and Intensive).
Teaching & Learning
In this role, the EAL Coordinator will provide targeted EAL support through both push-in and pull-out models as necessary, collaborating with teachers to adapt curriculum content for multilingual students. They will promote inclusive classroom practices, cultivate language-rich learning environments, and provide tailored support for students transitioning into the school.
Monitoring & Reporting
The EAL Coordinator is tasked with monitoring the progress of EAL students and providing termly reports while ensuring the accuracy and currency of student records. They will evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and adjust them as necessary to facilitate continuous improvement.
Collaboration
This position requires close cooperation with the Inclusion team, Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and Phase Leaders, offering CPD to teaching staff and fostering strong, supportive connections with families.
Person Specification
Essential
Candidates must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent qualification, with substantial teaching experience in a British curriculum setting. A strong background in working with multilingual learners, a thorough understanding of EAL pedagogy and language acquisition theories, and experience leading interventions or coordinating educational services are necessary. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential, along with experience in providing CPD to colleagues.
Desirable
Experience with standardized assessment tools for language proficiency and familiarity with international school settings would be advantageous.
