Position Overview
Raffles American School Bangkok is seeking a dedicated and engaging Chinese Language Teacher to teach Mandarin to students in the Early Years and Elementary School. The successful candidate will create a positive and supportive language-learning environment that helps young learners develop foundational Mandarin skills through engaging, age-appropriate instruction.
The teacher will deliver high-quality language instruction that develops students’ listening and speaking skills while gradually introducing reading and writing in developmentally appropriate ways. Through songs, stories, play-based learning, and interactive activities, the teacher will foster students’ curiosity and appreciation for the Chinese language and culture.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues to support the continued development of the school’s Chinese language program.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan and deliver engaging Mandarin Chinese lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum and appropriate for Early Years and Elementary School learners
• Develop students’ foundational Mandarin skills, particularly in listening and speaking, while introducing early literacy skills in Chinese
• Use age-appropriate teaching strategies such as songs, stories, games, and play-based learning to support language acquisition
• Differentiate instruction to support students with varying language backgrounds and levels of exposure to Mandarin
• Integrate Chinese culture, traditions, and celebrations into classroom learning experiences
• Monitor and assess student progress using developmentally appropriate assessment practices
• Maintain accurate records of student learning and communicate progress with parents and colleagues
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and colleagues to support cross-curricular learning and language development
• Contribute positively to the wider life of the school community, including cultural and language-related events
Qualifications and Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language Education, Early Childhood Education, Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, Linguistics, or a related field Personal Attributes
• Native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin Chinese
• Minimum of two years of classroom teaching experience
• Demonstrated ability to teach Mandarin to young learners or non-native speakers
• Strong classroom management and communication skills appropriate for Early Years and Elementary students
• Teaching certification or a recognized teaching qualification preferred
• Experience teaching in an international or multicultural school environment preferred
• Experience working with Early Years or Primary students preferred
• Familiarity with international language frameworks (e.g., YCT, HSK, IB, AP Chinese) is an advantage
• Experience integrating educational technology into language learning is an advantage
• Passion for teaching and promoting the Chinese language and culture
• Strong understanding of early childhood learning and development
• Commitment to student-centered and play-based learning
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
• Positive, adaptable, and professional approach to working in an international school environment
We offer competitive salaries, with fully qualified and licensed teachers for full-time teacher roles. There is no additional housing stipend. Candidates will be reimbursed for their flight to Thailand and provided round-trip airfare to their home country at the end of each contract (overseas applicants only). Visa and work-permit expenses will be reimbursed by RAS. Medical, accident, disability, and life insurance are also provided.
