About This Role

GEMS Wellington Academy, Al Khail is seeking to appoint a Careers Counsellor to start immediately. The Careers Counsellor is essential in guiding students as they navigate their career ambitions, higher education options, and opportunities beyond the age of 18. This role is crucial for promoting the school’s values, assisting students in forming healthy aspirations, mindsets, and behaviors. By collaborating with staff, parents, and outside partners, the Counsellor ensures that students are well-equipped to make informed choices regarding their futures.

The ideal candidate will possess a proven history of delivering effective counselling and guidance to students.

Student Guidance and Counselling
- Offer individual and small-group career counselling sessions for students.
- Assist students in investigating post-16 and post-18 pathways, such as higher education, work experience/apprenticeships, and job opportunities.
- Prepare students for university interviews and facilitate mock interviews with external professionals.
- Aid students in developing personal statements, CVs, and application essays.

Higher Education and Careers Programs
- Oversee the utilization of platforms like Unifrog, UCAS, and the Common App.
- Present engaging sessions on subjects such as personal statements, American college essays, student finance, and future employment trends.
- Manage and enhance the Year 10 and Year 12 work experience programs.
- Organize initiatives such as Med Soc, Oxbridge Society, and other student-driven academic societies.

Event Management and Stakeholder Engagement
- Plan and supervise events, including careers fairs, university visits, Higher Education Evenings, and GCSE Options Evenings.
- Connect with employers and professional organizations to broaden opportunities for students.
- Work together with other GEMS schools to share resources and coordinate joint efforts (e.g., Oxbridge Alumni Mock Interviews).

Data Management and Administration
- Keep precise student records, including exam results, progress data, references, and destination reports.
- Prepare and submit necessary documentation such as transcripts and application materials.
- Assist students during A-Level/BTEC and GCSE results days, aiding them with Clearing and decision-making processes.

Collaboration and Professional Development
- Assist staff in drafting references and personal statements through training and resource provision.
- Stay informed about labor market trends and incorporate this information into guidance resources.
- Actively engage in Parent-Teacher Consultations (Years 9–13) and other school-related events.
- Contribute to the school community by participating in extracurricular activities and promoting a culture of aspiration and excellence.
- Build strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and external partners.
- Maintain the school’s commitment to excellence and comprehensive student development.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Principal or Leadership Team.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
