About the School
Alookie School is located in the picturesque hamlet of Pangnirtung, Nunavut, serving the local community. The school educates approximately 200 students in grades K-5 and has a staff of 25. Both the school and the surrounding community are deeply rooted in Inuit cultural heritage.

Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
Candidates need not meet every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education are highly valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
- Experience with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education
- Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL settings
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian teaching environments

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Understanding of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Knowledge of current assessment methods to guide student learning
- Skills in creating a positive classroom climate with effective management practices (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Demonstrated experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders
- Background in promoting student wellbeing and engagement
- Engagement with students outside the classroom as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and supporting students
- Ability to function effectively as part of a school team
- Participation in a shared, community-focused educational environment

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (based on experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Pangnirtung, Nunavut: $19,077
- Subsidized Housing: NOT available

Conditions of Employment
- Candidates currently employed by the Government of Nunavut must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications without this documentation will not be considered.
