The Person
We are seeking a dedicated educator who is passionate and eager to inspire our exceptional students. Reporting directly to the Head of Prep School, the Head of Lower Prep (KS2) will cultivate an environment in Lower Prep that reflects the school’s values and ethos. The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering the highest standards of student progress by setting ambitious expectations for both colleagues and students. Additionally, the Head of Lower Prep will collaborate with the Principal to promote the school and facilitate student admissions to Cheltenham Muscat.
The Head of Lower Prep will contribute to the overall strategic vision of the school through collaboration with the Head of Upper Prep and the Head of Prep-prep. This role is ideal for talented and driven individuals who have consistently achieved outstanding results for children in primary, prep, or all-through educational settings, whether in the UK or internationally. While prior leadership experience is advantageous, it is not mandatory.
Leadership
The Head of Lower Prep will oversee the daily management of class teachers for Grades 3-5, including:
• Providing guidance and support to staff on matters involving parents, students, and colleagues;
• Facilitating the induction process for new Lower Prep staff;
• Leading phase meetings and reporting to the Head of Prep;
• Conducting resource audits and contributing to the annual overseas teaching resource order;
• Ensuring a strong presence for the phase within the school and through parent communications/events;
• Assisting the Director of Co-curricular in organizing events, trips, and activities.
Academic
The Head of Lower Prep is expected to guarantee significant progress for all pupils in their phase, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning and overseeing curriculum development. Responsibilities include:
• Serving as a strong role model through exceptional classroom practice;
• Committing to continuous professional development and leading in-house CPD;
• Mentoring staff and coordinating performance reviews;
• Providing support to Lower Prep form teachers as required;
• Conducting pupil progress meetings to evaluate student performance across the phase;
• Ensuring teachers maintain an overview of each student’s academic journey, planning interventions as necessary;
• Supervising the preparation and proofreading of termly reports;
• Assisting other leadership team members in evaluating the quality of teaching and learning in the Lower Prep phase;
• Teaching a class in Grades 3-5 with a reduced timetable.

• Ensure Lower Prep provision complies with all child protection legislation;
• Act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, liaising with the DSL as appropriate;
• Ensure that all teachers effectively record and monitor pastoral data within the phase;
• Track behavioral patterns over time, implementing timely interventions;
• Develop and communicate a well-structured pastoral program aligned with UK best practices, incorporating the Cheltenham 5Cs;
• Lead the transition process for all pupils moving from one year to the next.
Parent Communication
• Actively engage in the school’s parent engagement program, ensuring parents are well-informed about their child’s curriculum, timetable, progress, and learning attitude;
• Support the organization and facilitate parent meetings relevant to the phase;
• Foster parent involvement in the Lower Prep phase, arranging opportunities for visits and maintaining clear communication.
Professional Standards
• Attend assemblies, parents’ evenings, school events, and other staff meetings as directed by the Senior Leadership Team;
• Recognize the importance of being an exemplary role model for all students;
• Maintain high professional standards in line with the school ethos, including punctuality and personal presentation;
• Take responsibility for self-evaluation and reflection on teaching practices for continual improvement;
• Maintain professional and constructive relationships with colleagues;
• Fulfill any reasonable additional responsibilities as requested by the Executive Principal.
