About This Role
Position Summary
We are excited to invite applications for the role of Artist Technician (0.5 part-time) to join our dynamic Arts Faculty. The ideal candidate will be a practicing Visual Artist who is passionate about engaging with young people and has a broad interest in the Arts, extending their enthusiasm beyond the studio to actively contribute to our diverse range of exhibitions, performances, and festivals. With our emphasis on collaboration within the Arts, experience or interest in Theatre and Music would be a significant asset, as we cherish versatile creative skills that can enhance projects across the faculty.
This position is tailored for a proactive individual who can combine dependable "behind-the-scenes" operational support with an approachable demeanor for students. You will be adept at preparing materials and ensuring that art studios are well-maintained, while also guiding students through complex projects and enhancing the department’s visibility through new extracurricular initiatives. As a key member of the College’s creative community, you will have the interpersonal abilities necessary to cultivate positive relationships at all levels, thereby ensuring that students are encouraged to achieve their fullest creative potential within a bustling and vibrant faculty.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Student Engagement & Co-Curricular Life
•
Lead extracurricular clubs aimed at introducing new creative disciplines (3D design, textiles, fashion, or other specialized techniques).
•
Provide assistance during practical classes according to the daily timetable of the Art department.
•
Support the broader Arts co-curricular program; availability for evening events is essential for biannual exhibitions and desirable for performances and concerts.
•
Work together with the Drama and/or Music departments as creative opportunities present themselves.
Technical Artistic Support
•
Mentor students using specialized equipment and provide technical guidance on a variety of mixed-media projects.
•
Ensure studios are maintained in a clean, safe, and fully operational state.
Exhibition, Display & Curation
•
Assist with the practical logistics and setup of time-sensitive "pop-up" external or assessment exhibitions, as well as permanent internal displays. This includes mounting, framing, dismantling, and refreshing student artwork.
•
Photograph and document artwork for exam board submissions and archival purposes.
•
Create occasional visual content for social media and departmental promotional activities.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
•
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a Visual Arts or Design specialization.
•
Solid understanding of health and safety standards within an Art studio or workshop setting.
•
Proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally in an educational context.
•
Excellent organizational skills and familiarity with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, etc.).
•
Capability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary Arts team.
Desirable Experience and Skills
•
Educational Background: Prior experience in an Art department or Arts Faculty within an educational establishment.
•
Demonstrated active and ongoing creative practice as a Visual Artist.
•
Strong interest in Theatre and/or Music, with a willingness to contribute technical skills to set design or performance support.
•
Experience and comfort working in a bilingual school environment that is internationally oriented, liberal, and inclusive.
•
A genuine commitment to fostering the growth of young people and assisting them in realizing their full creative potential.
