Job Overview

We invite dynamic and inspiring leaders in Physical Education and sport to apply for the position of Head of Sport and Physical Education at Amity International School Amsterdam. If you have experience with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and a strong dedication to student wellbeing, we want to hear from you.

In this role, you will deliver both strategic and operational leadership in Physical and Health Education, competitive sports, and overall school wellbeing through physical activity.

The ideal candidate will align with the school’s vision, be capable of guiding a high-performing team, and motivate students to cultivate lifelong healthy habits, resilience, and a passion for sport and movement.

What will your daily responsibilities include?

As the successful candidate, you will:


Develop and lead a high-quality Physical and Health Education program that meets IB MYP standards and senior school pathways.


Foster a culture of physical literacy, teamwork, resilience, and wellbeing throughout the school.


Oversee and improve co-curricular sports, including inter-house competitions, extracurricular clubs, and inter-school events.


Ensure excellence in teaching and learning through coaching, observation, and the professional development of staff.


Create and implement a cohesive, inquiry-based curriculum with meaningful assessment practices.


Effectively use data to track student progress, participation, and wellbeing.


Maintain safe, inclusive, and well-managed learning environments, upholding strong safeguarding and health and safety standards.


Lead departmental planning, evaluation, and improvements in line with the school's broader priorities.


Efficiently manage staffing, resources, facilities, and departmental budgets.


Encourage collaboration within the department and with the wider school community.


Build strong relationships with students, parents, and external partners to enhance sporting and wellbeing opportunities.


Support whole-school initiatives, including wellbeing programs, outdoor education, and student leadership in sports.

What qualifications and experience should you possess?

The ideal applicant will have:


Experience within the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) and Diploma Programme (IB DP).


Valuable experience with IGCSE.


Demonstrated leadership experience or the capability to effectively manage and develop a team.


A solid grasp of sports science, coaching techniques, and student-centered teaching methods.


Experience in organizing and leading sports programs, competitions, and co-curricular activities.


A bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field, along with a recognized teaching qualification.


Experience in international or diverse educational settings is preferred.


The ability to analyze data and leverage it for strategic decision-making.


Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.


A commitment to inclusive practices and supporting students of all abilities.


A passion for advocating wellbeing, healthy lifestyles, and holistic education.


Resilience, creativity, and a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
