About This Role
In response to the continued expansion of our school, we are excited to invite applications for the role of Head of Sixth Form, commencing in August 2026.
The Head of Sixth Form at Cheltenham Muscat plays a critical leadership role, focused on the academic achievement, pastoral support, and overall growth of Sixth Form students. This position is vital for ensuring that students excel both academically and personally within the framework of a British Independent School, aligned with the Cambridge International Curriculum and the values inspired by Cheltenham College UK. The Head of Sixth Form will cultivate a nurturing yet challenging educational atmosphere, guiding students towards successful A Level completion and arming them with the skills and character needed for future success.
As part of an all-through school that serves a diverse student population, this role demands cultural awareness, strong leadership capabilities, and effective collaboration with teaching staff and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). The Head of Sixth Form will also engage in broader school leadership initiatives, including quality assurance, supporting the institution’s vision to provide a top-tier British education grounded in respect, integrity, and academic excellence.

Opened in September 2021, Cheltenham Muscat is Oman’s inaugural premium British school, catering to boys and girls from ages 3 to 18. Located on a state-of-the-art campus, both students and educators at Cheltenham Muscat benefit from exceptional facilities for academic pursuits and extracurricular activities, alongside robust support from our partner institution, Cheltenham College, which has a tradition of outstanding education spanning over 180 years.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Academic Leadership and Curriculum Oversight
•
Direct and oversee the Sixth Form academic program, ensuring that A Level delivery is effective and that students are appropriately matched to their courses.
•
Track and support students’ academic performance, offering advice on subject selection, university applications, and career options.
•
Work collaboratively with subject leaders and educators to uphold high standards of teaching and learning in the Sixth Form.
Pastoral Care and Student Development
•
Supervise the pastoral support for Sixth Form students, enhancing their well-being, personal growth, and positive conduct.
•
Create and maintain a meaningful Life Skills program for Sixth Form students, ensuring its quality.
•
Guarantee a safe and inclusive environment that embodies the school’s values and respects cultural diversity.
•
Initiate programs that promote leadership, citizenship, and extracurricular involvement among Sixth Form students.
•
Oversee student leadership initiatives within the Sixth Form.
•
Encourage Sixth Form students to engage in the broader school community.
Leadership and Quality Assurance
•
Assist the Senior Leadership Team in various leadership functions, including quality assurance activities across the school.
•
Contribute to the formulation, execution, and assessment of school policies, particularly those impacting Sixth Form operations.
•
Engage in staff recruitment, evaluation, and professional development efforts pertinent to the Sixth Form team.
Communication and Collaboration
•
Maintain effective communication with students, parents, staff, and external partners to foster Sixth Form success.
•
Collaborate closely with the Senior Leadership Team and other phase leaders to ensure a seamless educational journey throughout the school.
•
Represent the school at external events and liaise with universities, examination boards, and other educational organizations.
Data Management and Reporting
•
Utilize assessment data and performance indicators to guide strategic planning and interventions for Sixth Form students.
•
Monitor student attendance, analyze trends, and intervene as necessary to enhance attendance rates.
•
Provide reports to the Senior Leadership Team, governors, and parents as needed.
Skills and Competencies
•
A relevant Bachelor's Degree, with QTS/PGCE.
•
Demonstrated leadership abilities with a talent for inspiring and motivating both staff and students.
•
Articulate and confident in engaging with a variety of stakeholders, earning the trust of our community.
•
Strong communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills, adept at connecting with a diverse community.
•
Culturally aware and flexible, with experience in international or multicultural educational settings.
•
Proficient in pastoral care and student welfare, dedicated to safeguarding and promoting student well-being.
•
Organized and proactive, demonstrating strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
•
Skilled in data analysis and utilizing performance information to drive improvement.
•
Function as a deputy designated safeguarding lead, remaining vigilant in recognizing and reporting concerns.
•
Adhere to Cheltenham Muscat’s safeguarding policies and legal guidance, ensuring the protection and safety of all Sixth Form students.
•
Foster a safeguarding culture among Sixth Form staff and students.
•
Ensure that all activities and interactions within the Sixth Form comply with child protection laws and ethical standards.
•
Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team and external agencies to support vulnerable students and maintain a safe learning atmosphere.
