The School

Opened in September 2021, Cheltenham Muscat is Oman’s premier British school for children aged 3 to 18. Located on a state-of-the-art campus, both students and educators benefit from top-notch facilities for academic and extracurricular pursuits. Additionally, we receive strong support from our partner institution, Cheltenham College, which has a legacy of delivering outstanding education for over 180 years.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Collaborate with school leadership to strategically allocate resources and ensure effective utilization of SEN funding.

• Develop, implement, and regularly assess the Additional Learning Needs Policy and associated procedures to ensure compliance with local regulations and British educational standards.

• Work alongside curriculum leaders to ensure that SEND provision is seamlessly integrated from primary through secondary education.

Monitoring and Assessment

• Manage communication and relationships with parents concerning their child’s SEND, EAL, and AAL provision, including overseeing payments for services from parents where necessary.

• Coordinate with external agencies, specialists, and local authorities to secure additional support and advice for students when required.

• Provide guidance and training to staff on best practices for SEND, ensuring a shared understanding and commitment throughout the school community.

Teaching and Learning Support

• Assist teachers in adapting their teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning needs and encourage independent learning.

• Oversee the efforts of learning support assistants and other support staff to deliver tailored interventions in small groups or one-on-one settings.

• Foster a culture of inclusion and respect, ensuring that SEND provision aligns with students' spiritual, moral, social, cultural, physical, and mental development in accordance with the school's vision and values.

• Provide training for support teachers directly employed by parents.

Skills and Competencies

• In-depth knowledge of SEND identification, assessment, and intervention strategies within British curriculum and international contexts.

• Strong organizational abilities, capable of managing multiple priorities, including exam access arrangements and financial aspects related to SEN services.

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to cultivate positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and external professionals.

• Leadership capabilities to inspire and motivate colleagues towards inclusive teaching and learning practices.

• Cultural sensitivity and awareness to work effectively within a diverse school community comprising a significant number of Omani and expatriate students.

• Proficiency in managing data and maintaining records related to SEND provision and student progress monitoring.

Safeguarding

• The Head of Inclusion is primarily responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all students, ensuring adherence to statutory safeguarding guidelines such as Keeping Children Safe in Education.

• Collaborate closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to identify and address any concerns related to the safety and wellbeing of students with SEND.

• Ensure that all SEND interventions and support mechanisms uphold students’ rights and dignity, fostering a safe and supportive environment for vulnerable learners.

• Contribute to staff training on safeguarding issues specific to SEND, including recognizing signs of abuse or neglect that may be obscured by learning difficulties.
