RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Secondary School teacher, you will play a key role in creating a dynamic, inclusive, and inquiry-based learning atmosphere. A love for working with adolescents, a flexible attitude, and a commitment to teamwork are vital. Primary duties include:

• Design and Deliver Engaging Learning Experiences
• Align teaching methods with AIS’s Teaching Standards, Learning Principles, and Definition of High Quality Learning and Teaching.
• Create inquiry-driven lessons to foster critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and intercultural awareness.
• Integrate student interests, identity, and voice while adapting instruction to cater to varied learning needs.
• Assist students in developing attributes of the IB Learner Profile and applying their learning in real-world situations.

• Foster an Inclusive and Supportive Classroom Environment
• Establish a classroom culture rooted in belonging, respect, and high expectations.
• Utilize culturally responsive and restorative practices to cultivate strong relationships and uphold a positive learning space.
• Promote collaboration, empathy, and shared accountability among students.

• Support Student Well-being and Advisory
• Act as an advisor to a group of students, supporting their academic progress, personal well-being, and growth.
• Engage in the annual week-long Eagles Learning Experience (ELE) program to support experiential learning through local or overnight excursions.
• Lead or assist with an extracurricular activity, club, or athletic team to enhance student involvement and community spirit.

• Implement Effective Assessment Practices
• Employ a diverse array of formative and summative assessments in line with IB frameworks and AIS standards.
• Deliver timely, specific feedback that encourages growth and self-reflection.
• Clearly communicate student progress using approved school platforms and reporting methods.

• Mentor Students in Major IB and AIS Pathway Projects
• Guide students through MYP Personal Projects, DP Extended Essays, CP Reflective Projects, or AIS Impact Diploma capstones, as assigned.
• Assist students in research, inquiry, academic integrity, and goal setting.

• Collaborate Across Schools and Pathways
• Partner closely with colleagues across the Buckhead and Sandy Springs campuses to ensure curricular consistency from Grades 6 to 12.
• Work with Group and Subject Leaders, IB Coordinators, Heads of Year, and student support teams to establish shared learning expectations and experiences.
• Contribute to interdisciplinary planning and the integration of AIS pathways, including DP, CP, AISx, and the AIS Impact Diploma.

• Engage in Professional Learning and Continuous Improvement
• Participate in professional development opportunities aligned with IB programs, AIS’s Continuous Improvement Goals, and your own personal development goals.
• Reflect on and enhance teaching practices through coaching, feedback, and collaboration.
• Exhibit AIS Professional Standards in communication, teamwork, accountability, and cross-cultural engagement.

• Support Holistic Student Development
• Assist students in building confidence, agency, and the ability to take meaningful action both locally and globally.
• Honor students’ linguistic, cultural, and personal identities as essential to their learning journey.
• Exemplify curiosity, integrity, and a dedication to service and global citizenship.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Educational Background & Professional Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent (Master’s degree preferred)
• At least 2 years of teaching experience in a science classroom.
• Relevant experience in the subject area and with adolescent learners.

Specialized Skills
• Familiarity with IB teaching or concept-based instruction (preferred); IB training will be provided if necessary.
• Relevant experience in the following areas to enhance learning and student engagement:
• Ability to create engaging lessons that develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, helping students become confident communicators.
• Ability to guide students in lab-based experimental learning.
• Ability to lead students in fieldwork and science-related experiential learning.
• Commitment to fostering inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments where students’ identities and experiences are respected.
• Willingness to learn AIS’s curriculum frameworks and assessment expectations; prior IB experience is an asset but not a requirement.
