Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers lacking a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
  • Experience in education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles
  • Teaching experience in bilingual or ESL environments
  • Background in cross-cultural or northern-Canada educational settings

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive educational practices
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy instruction
  • Knowledge of current assessment strategies to enhance learning
  • Experience creating a positive learning environment through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members
  • Experience in fostering student wellbeing and engagement
  • Involvement with students beyond the classroom as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student support
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues and community partners
