Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

While not every qualification is mandatory, relevant experience and a dedication to community-centered education are highly regarded.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
  • Familiarity with educational practices based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
  • Experience in bilingual or ESL teaching settings
  • Background in teaching in cross-cultural or northern Canadian environments

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching strategies
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
  • Understanding or experience with modern assessment methods to guide learning
  • Proven ability to create a supportive classroom atmosphere through effective management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders
  • Experience in fostering student well-being and engagement
  • Participation with students in activities outside of the classroom, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student support
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
