Major Responsibilities
Planning, Teaching, Assessment and Reporting
1.1 Develop and implement lesson planning and curriculum documentation according to school policy.
1.2 File up-to-date copies of required curriculum documentation and planning, attendance and grade records as required on a regular basis
1.3 Plan and use a variety of teaching strategies to support the engagement and progress of all learners
1.4 Be aware of EAL and individual learning needs and provide learning opportunities for diverse learners
1.5 Respect the values, gender and cultural differences of students and create a classroom culture that develops student intellectual capacity, emotional and personal development
1.6 Develop teacher grade books including home assignments, and set and correct students’ homework in an organised, professional manner ensuring that accurate records of each student are kept
1.7 Update records on the schools’ data management system as required and in a timely manner
1.8 Develop school mid/end-term examinations following the school curriculum and policies
1.9 Conduct tests or exams, marking them and reporting on them in a timely and professional manner
1.10 Assess and address students’ individualised needs; keep regular updates e.g. Progress records/progress reports for students during the semester; complete report cards when necessary.
1.11 Develop special resources and strategies to meet individual /differentiated student needs.
1.12 Organise and prepare learning materials and teaching aids of a professional teaching standard
1.13 Prepare thoroughly for, attend and participate fully in all relevant Parent Teacher Conferences, Parent Nights, Introductory and Marketing Meetings, Subject Selection Presentations etc.
1.14 Register students for every lesson during the lesson and follow up on student absence accordingly
1.15 Contribute to the University admissions process as requested by UGO
Others
2.1 Supervise students when they are involved in school activities or trips within and outside school premises including residential trips as required
2.2 Perform invigilation and lesson cover duties in a professional manner as requested
2.3 Perform classroom, hallway or playground supervision duties in a timely and professional manner
2.4 Attend all relevant staff meetings and participate in school committees and activities
2.5 Participate in school extracurricular activities, after school tutoring and out-reach programmes
2.6 Manage, coordinate and develop beyond class activities based on the school curriculum and School philosophy and aims.
2.7 Attend and be involved in the School’s Character Development and Moral Education programmes and attend all assemblies
2.8 Play a full part in the life of the school’s House System
2.9 Participate fully in School Professional Development programmes including personal ICT skills development
2.10 Compile, supplement and assist in ordering resources when necessary.
2.11 Be familiar with the School’s curriculum and educational philosophy, liaising with relevant colleagues and across sections as appropriate
2.12 Keep abreast of current educational theories and practice and seek opportunities to share best practice and to be involved in the Foundation’s learning communities and communities of practice
2.13 Ensure that school equipment is maintained in safe working order and report needs to maintenance or administration as necessary
2.14 Work according to the published School calendar and school leave policies including working Saturdays as relevant. Perform any other reasonable duties as requested by School Administration
Form Tutor responsibilities
3.1 General duties
3.1.1 Get to know each student in the Tutor Group, liaising with previous teachers/sections and PLO
3.1.2 Be available, approachable and caring about students’ whole-person development
3.1.3 Implement the School’s Character Development programme and develop students’ positive character qualities
3.1.4 Supplement the school’s pastoral program with a Tutor Room ethos, expectations and buddy system aligned with the Charter for Success.
3.1.5 Monitor behaviour, advise and encourage observance of school policies and regulations
3.1.6 Develop a sense of community in the Tutor Group and Grade Level
3.1.7 Be knowledgeable of the School’s curricular and extracurricular programs and advise students as relevant promoting additional activities and trips
3.1.8 Assist the School Office or other school divisions in disseminating school newsletters, notices, surveys, parent letters etc. and collecting returns
3.1.9 Assist the Parent Liaison Office in working with parents to build a positive and supportive school environment
3.1.10 Work with the school administration to deal with students’ academic, emotional or behavioural issues and with university preparation as required
3.2 Special duties
3.2.1 Records
3.2.1.1 Keep accurate records of student school attendance
3.2.1.2 Take notice of each student’s personal and social skill development and behavioural performance
3.2.1.3 Complete the Tutor Group section in the Progress Report Card in a timely and professional manner with regard to student attendance, behaviour and social skills, school activities etc.
3.2.1.4 Work with the School Office or administration to ensure the accuracy and filing of all records into the appropriate data management systems
3.2.2 Report
3.2.2.1 Report to the relevant Head of Student Life and the School Office any student who is absent for more than two days
3.2.2.2 Report to the Head of Student Life and the School Office any student with a pattern of late arrival or poor attendance
3.2.2.3 Report to the Head of Student Life any student with personal, emotional or behavioural issues
3.2.2.4 Report to the relevant Head of Department or Head of Academics any academic or effort issues
3.2.3 Communicate
3.2.3.1 Bring to notice Bulletin or event preparation matters during each Tutor Group period
3.2.3.2 Advise students on organisation of work/time management, study methods/strategies and whole-person development
3.2.3.3 Mentor students on social skill development, team spirit and how to deal with life situations
3.2.3.4 Collaborate with your Co-Tutor and Co-Teachers regarding Tutor Group and Grade level concerns
3.2.3.5 Provide feedback to the administration on student issues as relevant or requested
3.2.3.6 Initiate dialogue with parents, counsellors or other relevant teachers when any concerns arise
3.2.3.7 Communicate with the School Office with regard to student leave or absence
3.2.3.8 Work with other teachers and communicate to parents regarding student academic and behavioural performance on a weekly basis through Yew Wah Home School Contact, PowerParent and/or through the Parent Liaison Office
3.2.4 Develop community
3.2.4.1 Plan team-building activities, assist in all grade level, department, division or School events
3.2.4.2 Cooperate with the School Office, Student Council or other school divisions on events, elections, and plans
3.2.4.3 Celebrate successes and special occasions in the Tutor Group
3.2.5 Support and care
3.2.5.1 Set a tone of respect, kindness and openness with all students
3.2.5.2 Be available, with set times for individual discussion with students
3.2.5.3 Discuss issues of interest, concern or importance with the members of the Tutor Group
3.2.6 Monitor
3.2.6.1 Check attendance, and encourage respect within the Tutor Group, at assemblies and school events including emergency procedures
3.2.6.2 Monitor language, dress and behaviour code and observance of School or class regulations
3.2.7 Character development
3.2.7.1 Plan and facilitate lessons related to the Character Development and Moral Education programmes
3.2.7.2 Discuss and centralise the Character Trait of the month as stated in the school calendar
3.2.7.3 Work with other teachers to organise Character Development activities and assemblies
3.2.7.4 Encourage and mentor whole-person development
3.2.8 Meetings
3.2.8.1 Participate in Pastoral and Grade Level teacher meetings as required
3.2.8.2 Participate in grade-level or administration meetings discussing students’ academic progress, emotional or behaviour issues as required
