DUTIES:

Reporting to the Facility Manager, the Maintenance/Gardener will carry out regular maintenance and repair activities, including plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry tasks, along with grounds maintenance and the operation of machinery and custodial equipment at the UCN The Pas campus and additional UCN sites. Primary duties include daily upkeep of buildings and grounds, addressing and recording maintenance requests, conducting routine inspections of facilities, and taking appropriate action as necessary. The position also entails performing minor repairs, responding to urgent assistance requests as needed, and completing any other assigned tasks.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Solid experience in gardening and groundskeeping, specifically in maintaining and repairing gardening and snow removal equipment, as well as safely operating mowers, weeding tools, snow blowers, and other grounds maintenance machinery.
  • Knowledgeable in the safe operation of automotive equipment, machinery, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with the safe handling and application of chemicals (i.e., WHMIS).
  • Strong time management abilities, with the capability to adapt to shifting priorities while organizing work effectively, meeting deadlines, and ensuring tasks are completed.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A dedication to lifelong learning.

Assets:

  • Proficiency in an Indigenous language.
  • First Aid - CPR Certification.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultures.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Candidates must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check are mandatory.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License is required.
  • Some travel may be necessary.
