About This Role

GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a committed and talented educator to join our Middle/High School English Education team.

The expected start date for this role is August 2026.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Promoting and embodying the ethos and standards of excellence as defined by the GEMS Core Values.
  • Delivering the approved curriculum with a thorough understanding of its content and subject matter.
  • Creating and presenting dynamic lessons that motivate students. Develop and use appropriate materials and classroom settings to cater to diverse learning preferences.
  • Provide written documentation of lesson planning and preparation when requested. Keep precise records of curriculum outlines, annual plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment methods, etc.
  • Comply with GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct at all times.
  • Teach students according to their individual learning needs, utilizing strategies that address the varied abilities of students, including late entrants, ESL learners, those with lower academic skills, as well as gifted and talented students.
  • Assign and assess student work. Monitor, document, and report on students’ academic progress and achievements, using assessments to adapt the curriculum to meet individual student needs.
  • Show proficiency in effectively integrating media and technology into classroom instruction.
  • Support the overall development and well-being of students, offering guidance on educational matters.
  • Engage with external stakeholders as required, such as officials from the Ministry of Education.
  • Participate in appraisal and Performance Management processes and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop teaching materials, resources, study programs, and pastoral care arrangements.
  • Participate in and, when appropriate, lead co-curricular and extracurricular activities at the school. Foster positive working relationships through proactive leadership and the sharing of ideas, resources, and experiences.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate behavior among students. Develop and implement strategies to encourage self-discipline and effectively manage behavioral challenges.
  • Model and promote cultural sensitivity while instilling a passion for learning.
  • Assist in organizing and planning school events and activities, such as inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, and award ceremonies.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents, advocating for the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents informed about their children's progress while respecting student confidentiality.
  • Exhibit initiative and commitment beyond the regular workday when additional effort is needed.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in committees as necessary.
  • Carry out other responsibilities as assigned by direct and indirect managers/supervisors.

Ideal candidates will be expected to:

  • Demonstrate our core values of respect, innovation, leadership, purpose, and tenacity.
  • Hold a B.Ed or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (English) along with a PGCE/PGDE or an equivalent Level 5 teaching qualification.
  • Possess knowledge of ICT applications in education to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Be a passionate educator with a strong commitment to teaching and a solid understanding of the subject area.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills, capable of fostering relationships with both students and colleagues while contributing to the wider school community.
  • Bring a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in the relevant subject area or age group.
