Overview: Under the direction of the Principal, the Educational Assistant is essential in the development and execution of educational programs; assesses and communicates student progress; supervises students and carries out various tasks that facilitate program implementation.
Qualifications:
• The preferred candidate will have:
• Grade 12 Diploma or ABE
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work independently
• A clear CPIC (criminal record check)
• A commendable work ethic, along with reliability and dependability
The Educational Assistant's responsibilities include:
• Assisting in the preparation of instructional materials, worksheets, and educational games by performing tasks such as drawing, cutting, laminating, duplicating, and typing for teachers during non-instructional times.
• Observing learning activities as guided by teachers and supporting or assessing progress in various life skills activities.
• Monitoring, observing, discussing, and reporting on student progress to teachers, and when necessary, participating in TEAM meetings related to student development and parent-teacher conferences.
• Adjusting classroom and curriculum resources to meet student needs as directed by teachers and special education personnel.
• Executing behavior modification techniques, aiding in problem-solving, and contributing to the overall management of the classroom.
• Assisting in the assessment of student progress by collecting information regarding behavior and documenting individual progress (e.g., through journals and observation sheets) as required.
• Helping students enhance problem-solving skills, social abilities, and peer interactions.
• Providing tutoring and support to students with their academic assignments.
• Performing additional responsibilities as outlined in the MFNEC Policy Appendix A.
