About This Role

Description


A strategic and cultural leadership role focused on ensuring the success and holistic wellbeing (hauora) of ākonga Māori. This role is central to leading the college’s genuine commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, promoting equity, and fostering powerful relationships with whānau and iwi.

  • Provide strategic leadership to achieve equity for ākonga Māori, driving the implementation of the college's commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

  • Working with the senior leadership team and board (including Mana Whenua representatives - both internal and external to the College) to ensure the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi are authentically applied across all school policies and practices to create equitable systems.


Whānau engagement and pastoral care



  • Foster and maintain strong, mana-enhancing relationships with Māori whānau, local iwi (Te Āti Awa Taranaki Whānui), and the wider community, ensuring genuine partnership.

  • Prioritise the wellbeing (hauora) of ākonga Māori by taking a leading role in the pastoral care network.

  • Collaborate with deans, counsellors, and whānau to provide comprehensive support and implement culturally appropriate, restorative practices.


Person Specification



  • An exceptional ability to build positive, collaborative, and mana-enhancing relationships with students, staff, whānau, and iwi.

  • A successful record of leadership within a New Zealand secondary school context, and a strong, demonstrable track record of raising engagement and achievement for ākonga Māori.

  • Highly organised, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
