Title: College Counselor

Reports to: Head of College Counseling

The Island Private School of Limassol in Cyprus welcomed its first 500 students in September 2022 and is currently seeking a skilled, seasoned, and especially enthusiastic College Counselor to become part of our team.

We are in the midst of planning our new campus, set to be established on a stunning 50,000 m2 site, anticipated to be completed around the end of 2027. This new campus will house kindergarten, elementary, and high schools, an international boarding school, as well as accommodations for educators. This presents an exciting opportunity to join a developing school at a significant juncture in its growth.

The Position:

In the role of College Counselor, you will be essential in guiding students throughout their academic paths and the college admissions journey. Your responsibilities will encompass academic advising, college admissions support, career guidance, and addressing personal and social issues relating to higher education. This position will primarily focus on the local and EU university landscape while contributing to the development of the MYP and younger years career and university guidance program as outlined in our strategic plan.

Responsibilities:

1. Engagement and Interaction – School Ambassador to Internal Community:

- Advocate for the mission and philosophy of the school

- Create a secure and purposeful learning environment for all students

- Encourage the progress and well-being of every student

- Inspire and motivate students to strive for their own ambitions and those of their peers

- Supervise students during both classroom and extracurricular activities as part of the regular curricular and extracurricular school programs

- Participate in extracurricular responsibilities that aid in the growth of the school

2. Individualized College Counseling:

- Collaborate with high school students to develop customized college plans, which include academic and extracurricular recommendations, standardized testing strategies, and course selection.

- Provide support and guidance to parents and guardians regarding careers and college planning.

3. College Application Support:

- Aid students in the preparation and submission of college applications, including assistance with essays, resumes, and other necessary materials.

4. Admissions Testing:

- Offer guidance on SAT/ACT test preparation, registration, and strategies for achieving success.

5. College Research:

- Remain updated on college admissions trends and maintain a comprehensive database of colleges and universities globally, including their programs, admission criteria, and scholarships.

6. Financial Aid and Scholarships:

- Counsel students and parents on financial aid opportunities and scholarships, and assist with FAFSA and CSS Profile applications.

7. Interview Preparation:

- Facilitate mock interviews and prepare students for college admissions interviews.

8. Campus Visits:

- Organize college fairs, campus visits, and informational sessions to introduce students to a variety of college options.

Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree in education, psychology, or a related area
• Relevant experience in education or counseling
• Strong communication abilities to effectively interact with students, parents, and colleagues
• Knowledge of college admissions processes, requirements, and current trends
• Capacity to empathize with students and demonstrate patience in addressing their concerns
• Effective organizational skills to manage caseloads and conduct workshops
• Familiarity with the local higher education market in Cyprus would be advantageous

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
