About This Role

GEMS American Academy in Qatar is on the lookout for a dedicated and skilled professional to enhance our Middle/High School English Education team.

The anticipated start date for this position is August 2026.

Key Responsibilities include:


Uphold and promote the ethos and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.


Implement the prescribed curriculum, showcasing current and precise knowledge of curriculum content and subject matter.


Design and deliver engaging lessons that inspire students. Develop and utilize suitable materials and classroom environments to accommodate various learning styles.


Provide written evidence of lesson planning and preparation upon request. Maintain accurate records of curriculum outlines, yearly plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment strategies, etc.


Adhere to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct at all times.


Instruct students based on their individual needs, employing teaching strategies that address the diverse abilities of students, including late entrants, ESL learners, those with lower academic skills, as well as gifted and talented individuals.


Assign and evaluate student work. Assess, document, and report on students’ academic progress and achievement, utilizing assessments to tailor the curriculum to meet individual student needs.


Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing media and technology effectively in the classroom.


Support the overall progress and welfare of students, providing guidance on educational matters.


Engage with external stakeholders when necessary (such as officials from the Ministry of Education).


Take part in appraisal and Performance Management processes and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).


Collaborate with colleagues in developing teaching materials, resources, study programs, and pastoral arrangements.


Participate in and, when suitable, lead co-curricular and extracurricular activities within the school. Foster positive working relationships through proactive leadership and sharing of ideas, resources, and experiences.


Oversee and ensure safe and appropriate behavior among students. Develop and implement strategies to promote self-discipline and manage behavioral challenges.


Model and promote cultural awareness and understanding while fostering a passion for learning.


Assist in organizing and planning school events and activities (such as inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, award ceremonies, etc.).


Maintain regular communication with parents, promoting the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents updated on their children's progress while respecting the confidentiality of student information.


Demonstrate initiative and dedication beyond the standard workday when tasks require additional effort.


Attend staff meetings and participate in committees as needed.


Carry out other responsibilities as assigned by direct and dotted line managers/supervisors.

Successful candidates will be expected to:


Exemplify and exemplify our core values of respect, innovation, leadership, purpose, and tenacity.


Possess a B.Ed or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (English) along with a PGCE/PGDE or an equivalent Level 5 teaching qualification.


Have knowledge of ICT applications in schools to enhance teaching and learning.


Be a dedicated teacher with a strong commitment to education and substantial subject knowledge in the relevant area.


Exhibit excellent communication skills, capable of building relationships with both students and colleagues while contributing to the broader school community.


Bring at least 2 years of teaching experience in the relevant subject area or age group.
